Job Description
The Katherine Thomas School Program, in Rockville, MD, serves students in grades K-8 with language and learning challenges, autism, intellectual disabilities, and/or other health impairments. KTS has an opportunity for a full-time Special Education Teaching Assistant (TA) beginning with the 2026/2027 school year. Working hours are 8:30 am to 4:15 pm M - F. K-2 Teaching Assistant Position Responsibilities Include
- Assist teachers in implementing content area curricula
- Guide and assist students in the classroom in following the teacher's instruction and school/program rules
- Provide necessary accommodations to meet individual, group, and program needs
- Create a supportive learning environment
- Support children in daily movement-based activities including sensory breaks, PE, and recess by modeling and guiding actions.
- Implement Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS)
- Document student progress through written notes and narrative reports
- Provide hygiene support as needed
Required Experience for the Teaching Assistant:
- MUST have a Bachelors Degree
- Experience with students with learning disabilities, Autism, intellectual disabilities, and/or other health impairment preferred
- Experience working with young children (ages 3 - 8)
- Knowledge of education and behavior management methods, procedures, and techniques helpful
- Must be reliable, maintain a professional attitude, and be team oriented
- Ability to read, write, and speak English clearly
