What are the responsibilities and job description for the Dietary Aide position at Tioga Medical Center?
Position Type: Full-Time (40 hours/week)
Shifts vary: 7:15 a.m to 3:45 p.m. and 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Requires working every other weekend and some holidays.
Compensation: $17.00 per hour
QUALIFICATIONS
Previous kitchen and/or cooking experience is preferred but not necessary. On-the-job training will be provided.
High School Diploma or GED, preferred.
Must be at least 16 years of age.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Serves meals in accordance with established portion control procedures.
Serves meals that are appetizing and palatable in appearance.
Serves meals as necessary and on a timely basis.
Prepares resident and patient drinks, coffee, water, juice, milk, etc.
Follows proper hand hygiene established policies and procedures.
Assists in maintaining, cleaning, organizing, stocking and re-stocking work areas, cupboards, storage areas, shelving, dish room, mop room, refrigerators and freezers.
Keeps necessary records, to follow time and temperature regulations, to have a working knowledge of food safety rules and where these rules can be located.
Completes daily/weekly charting.
Assists cook and prep cook with meal preparation, make snacks, supplements, apply proper item, date and use by date stickers to all food/drink items and use leftovers to avoid waste.
Helps load meal carts, deliver meal carts to proper areas.
Cleans and puts away dishes; cleans carts, equipment, counters, counter legs, shelves, walls, doors, Long Term Care and Independent Living chairs and tables, takes out garbage in dietary department, sweeps and mops floors in accordance to established policies and procedures. Assists in daily and weekly cleaning duties.
Ensures proper use, care, and cleaning of equipment.
Lines up trays, sets up tray tags, fills out daily menus, wraps silverware, sets up waters and drink trays for meals, sets up LTC dining room, sets up meal trays, return dirty carts and dishes to dish room.
Attends and works the annual Christmas party for the residents.
Attends department and in-service meetings.
Performs all duties or task requested by Director of Food and Nutrition Services or cook on duty.

Treats all residents and patients with dignity and respect. Promotes and protects all residents? and patients? rights.
Establishes a culture of compliance by adhering to all facility policies and procedures. Complies with standards of business conduct, and state/federal regulations and guidelines.
Follows appropriate safety and hygiene measures at all times to protect residents, patients, and themselves.
Understands and demonstrates knowledge of infection control practices, Universal Precautions, OSHA Blood Borne Pathogen Standard, and follows compliance with established policies and procedures.
Maintains confidentiality of protected health information, including verbal, written, and electronic communications.
Reports noncompliance with policies, procedures, regulations, or breaches in confidentiality to appropriate personnel. Reports any retaliation or discrimination to HR or CEO.
Reports any allegations of abuse, neglect, misappropriation of property, exploitation, or mistreatment of residents or patients to supervisor and/or CEO. Protects residents and patients from abuse, and cooperates with all investigations.
Reports any occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and/or hazardous chemicals in accordance with facility policy.
Participates in all life safety and emergency drills and trainings. Fulfills responsibilities as assigned during implementation or activation of the facility?s emergency plan.
Reports work-related injuries and illnesses immediately to supervisor.
Follows established infection control policies and procedures.
As a condition of employment, completes all assigned training and skills competency.
Maintains food storage areas in a clean and properly arranged manner at all times.
Ensures the department, necessary equipment and supplies are clean and maintained in a safe manner.
Assists in inventorying and storing in-coming food, supplies, etc., as necessary.
Ensures food and supplies for the next meal are readily available.

Meets general health requirements according to facility policy, including medical and physical exams and checking immunity status to various infectious diseases.
Ability to work beyond normal working hours and on weekends and holidays when necessary.
Ability to assist in evacuation of residents and patients during emergency situations.
Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, perform overhead lifting and perform other common physical movements as needed for the position.
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
Must be able to maintain good balance, stand for long periods of time, and have good dexterity.
Subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases and/or conditions which include AIDS, Coronavirus, Hepatitis B, and Tuberculosis.
May be subject to slips, falls, burns from equipment, cuts, and/or odors throughout the day; encounter reactions from dust, disinfectants, and other air contaminants.
May be subject to hostile or emotional residents, patients, family members, visitors or personnel.
Must be able to follow oral and written instructions.
Must maintain the care and use of supplies, equipment, and work areas.
Works in well-lit, ventilated area. Atmosphere is warm for cooking.
Subject to frequent interruptions.
Communicates with medical and nursing staff, and other departments.
Subject to call-back during emergency conditions.
May be exposed to heat/cold temperatures in the kitchen/storage areas.
