ABOUT THE ROLE
Clay Hub (part of Tinker Art Studio) is a working ceramics studio in the heart of South Boulder — a community-centered space with a teaching studio and a membership studio. We offer ceramics classes for children throughout the school year and run summer camp programming for kids.
The Assistant Teacher works alongside our Lead Teachers to deliver a warm, engaging, and well-run class experience for children ages 8 and up, with a focus on wheel throwing. This is a year-round role — the schedule shifts between the school year and summer, but the work is consistent: showing up prepared, supporting students, and helping keep the studio running smoothly before and after class.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
During classes
- Support Lead Teachers in delivering ceramics classes for children
- Work directly with students — demonstrating techniques, troubleshooting, and offering encouragement
- Help maintain a positive, focused, and age-appropriate classroom environment
Setup & cleanup
- Prepare the teaching studio before class — materials, tools, supplies, and workspace
- Clean and reset the studio after class, including tools, tables, and student work
- Light studio tidying and tool management throughout your shift
Birthday parties
- Assist with birthday party events, held approximately every other Saturday
- Support the Lead Teacher in facilitating a fun, well-paced party experience for kids and families
WHO YOU ARE
- You have teaching experience working with children and genuinely enjoy it
- You have proficiency in wheel throwing and can confidently demonstrate and support students on the wheel
- You have working knowledge of ceramics more broadly and can speak to basic techniques
- You’re warm, patient, and know how to connect with kids of different ages and energy levels
- You take direction well and work fluidly alongside a Lead Teacher
- You’re reliable, on time, and take setup and cleanup as seriously as the class itself
- You stay calm and positive in a busy, hands-on studio environment
- You’re a self-starter who notices what needs doing and does it

- Part-time, hourly — year-round
- $18–$20/hour, DOE
- Birthday party shifts include an additional gratuity share of approximately $23 per party

We want to be upfront about something specific to this role: this position does not include studio membership or additional studio access beyond class credits. Team members receive class credits to use toward classes or workshops at Tinker Art Studio or Clay Hub — and when participating as a student, they’re treated just like any other student, fully separate from their work role. This keeps the boundary between work and creative time healthy and clear.
