About the Role:

The Fleet Diesel Mechanical Technician plays a critical role in ensuring the optimal performance, safety, and reliability of a fleet of diesel-powered vehicles and equipment. This position involves diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel engines, transmissions, and related mechanical systems to minimize downtime and extend vehicle lifespan. The technician will work closely with fleet managers to schedule preventative maintenance and respond promptly to mechanical failures or breakdowns. By applying expert mechanical knowledge and troubleshooting skills, the technician helps maintain compliance with safety and environmental regulations. Ultimately, this role supports the operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness of the fleet, contributing to the overall success of the organization.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of a formal diesel mechanic training program or equivalent technical education.
  • Proven experience working as a diesel mechanic or technician, preferably in a fleet environment.
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines, transmissions, and related mechanical systems.
  • Ability to use diagnostic equipment and hand tools safely and effectively.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification from the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) in Medium/Heavy Truck Diesel Engines or related areas.
  • Experience with electronic engine controls and computerized diagnostic systems.
  • Familiarity with fleet management software and maintenance tracking systems.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple repair tasks efficiently.
  • Strong communication skills to interact effectively with team members and management.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine and preventive maintenance on diesel engines, transmissions, brakes, and other mechanical components of fleet vehicles.
  • Diagnose mechanical issues using diagnostic tools, technical manuals, and hands-on inspection to identify root causes of failures.
  • Repair or replace defective parts, including engine components, fuel systems, electrical wiring, and hydraulic systems.
  • Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair work performed, including parts used and labor hours.
  • Collaborate with fleet management to prioritize repairs and schedule maintenance to minimize vehicle downtime.
  • Ensure all work complies with safety standards, environmental regulations, and company policies.
  • Keep up to date with the latest diesel technology and repair techniques through ongoing training and professional development.

The required skills enable the technician to accurately diagnose and repair complex diesel engine issues, ensuring vehicles operate safely and efficiently. Proficiency with diagnostic tools and mechanical repair techniques is essential for troubleshooting and resolving problems quickly. Salary : $52,172 - $67,389
