Position Summary: Tin-Mar, Inc. is seeking an experienced Purchasing Agent to join our manufacturing team in Huntsville, AL. This role is the primary purchasing position for the company and is responsible for buying everything needed to run our jobs and keep the shop operating — from raw material and hardware to tooling, consumables, and outside processing. The ideal candidate brings strong vendor-management and negotiation skills, a solid understanding of a machine shop environment, and the ability to keep material flowing to the floor on time and at the right cost with minimal oversight.
Responsibilities:
Purchase all materials, tooling, and supplies required for production and daily operations
Source and purchase raw material (bar stock, plate, castings, etc.) with proper traceability and certification
Purchase hardware, fasteners, and COTS (commercial off-the-shelf) items to job requirements
Purchase cutting tools, perishable tooling, and consumable shop supplies
Solicit and evaluate quotes for outside processing (heat treat, plating, anodizing, coatings, NDT, and other special processes) and manage those orders through completion
Solicit competitive quotes, negotiate pricing and lead times, and select vendors based on cost, quality, delivery, and capability
Create, issue, and track purchase orders from placement through receipt
Expedite orders and proactively communicate delivery status and potential delays to production and management
Ensure purchased material and services meet job and program requirements, including required material certifications, mill certs, and Certificates of Conformance
Support DoD and DFARS requirements for material sourcing, traceability, and documentation
Develop and maintain strong relationships with a qualified supplier base and onboard new vendors as needed
Coordinate with receiving and quality on incoming material discrepancies, returns, and supplier corrective actions
Monitor inventory levels of common materials and supplies to prevent shortages and production delays
Maintain accurate purchasing records, pricing history, and vendor documentation
Required Qualifications:
Minimum 3 years of purchasing or procurement experience in a manufacturing environment
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, BOMs, and material specifications
Strong negotiation, organization, and vendor-management skills
Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Excel
Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage many active orders and priorities at once
Ability to work independently and communicate effectively across departments
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience purchasing for aerospace, defense, or government contract manufacturing
Familiarity with DFARS, material traceability, and cert/documentation requirements
Knowledge of common outside processes and metal-finishing vendors
Experience sourcing raw material, fasteners, and cutting tooling for a machine shop
Familiarity with AS9100 or ISO 9001 quality management systems
Physical Requirements:
Ability to work at a desk and computer for extended periods
Occasional walking on the shop floor and in receiving and inventory areas
Occasional lifting up to 25 lbs
Must be comfortable working in a manufacturing environment
Schedule:
Monday – Thursday (7:00AM - 4:15PM), Friday (7:00AM - 12:00PM)
Overtime available based on production needs
Pay: $28.00 – $38.00 per hour (based on experience)
