Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated School-Based Mental Health Therapist to work directly with middle and high school students in Howard County schools. This role focuses on addressing the unique mental health needs of adolescents in an educational setting, providing therapeutic support to help students thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide individual and group therapy addressing anxiety, depression, trauma, behavioral concerns, peer relationships, and academic stress
- Conduct mental health assessments, diagnostic evaluations, and risk assessments
- Develop evidence-based, individualized treatment plans tailored to adolescent development
- Deliver crisis intervention and safety planning as needed
- Facilitate family therapy sessions and engage caregivers in the treatment process
- Collaborate with school counselors, teachers, administrators, and support staff
- Advocate for students' mental health needs and connect families to community resources
- Maintain timely, accurate clinical documentation per OMHC and school requirements
- Participate in IEP/504 meetings, team meetings, and professional development
Required Qualifications
✓ Proven experience working therapeutically with middle and/or high school students ✓ Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or related mental health field ✓ Current Maryland licensure: LMSW, LCSW-C, LGPC, or LCPC ✓ Strong clinical skills in adolescent mental health, treatment planning, and case management ✓ Knowledge of adolescent development, trauma-informed care, and school-based mental health practices ✓ Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills ✓ Cultural competence and ability to work with diverse student populations and families
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with family therapy and caregiver engagement
- Bilingual skills (Spanish)
- Training in CBT, DBT, motivational interviewing, or other evidence-based adolescent modalities
