Position Summary
The Dietitian is responsible for nutrition assessment, counseling, education and program evaluation.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Assess clients medical history, including nutritional status, diet history and food habits. Conducts individual sessions to discuss individual patient nutrition needs and determine risk factors. Confers with physician and other clinicians as appropriate on effect of nutritional status.
- Develops nutritional plan for patient, presents information to patient/family individually about implementing nutrition plan including recommendations for special diets and diet techniques to ensure proper preparation and nutritional intake. Documents dietary assessment/plan summary for medical record.
- Conducts patient education programs for weight reduction, cultural preferences and special-need diet for certain health condition such as diabetes, high blood pressure, etc.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of appropriate medical terminology, ethnic eating patterns and cultural customs related to food.
- Knowledge of education principles including human behavior and presentation methods.
- Skills in nutrition assessment, problem-solving and handling-crisis situations.
- Skills in developing and presenting patient/staff/community education workshops.
- Ability to work scheduled hours as defined in the employment agreement.
- Ability to read and follow written and oral medical orders. Analyze medical condition and make appropriate judgements about dietary issues.
- Ability to work effectively in collaborative clinical and community situations.
Education / Training / Requirements
- Bachelors degree, or equivalent; Masters degree preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in healthcare setting.
Physical Demands
- Ability to stand and walk for limited periods of time.
- Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
- Ability to climb or balance for limited periods of time.
- Ability to occasionally reach, bend, stoop and lift up to 30 lbs. *
- Ability to grasp and hold up to 25 lbs.*
- Ability to hear normal voice level communications in person or through the telephone.
