TITLE: Human Resources Manager
REPORTS TO: Controller
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Human Resources Manager is responsible for leading and overseeing all HR functions within a private golf club environment. This role supports a diverse workforce across golf operations, food & beverage, facilities/maintenance, and administrative departments.
The HR Manager will drive a high-quality employee experience aligned with the club’s culture of service excellence, while ensuring full compliance with all applicable employment laws and internal policies.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with the Controller and department leaders to support club operations, workforce planning, and strategic initiatives.
- Manage and process semi-monthly payroll, ensuring accuracy of wages, tips, lessons, commissions, and other variable compensation.
- Lead onboarding for both seasonal and year-round employees, including E-Verify, orientation, and compliance documentation.
- Foster a positive, service-driven workplace culture that reflects the club’s values and enhances the member experience.
- Oversee employee relations, including conflict resolution, coaching, disciplinary actions, and employee engagement initiatives (e.g., appreciation events and recognition programs).
- Ensure compliance with federal, state (California), and local employment laws, including wage and hour regulations, in coordination with HR legal counsel.
- Administer benefits programs, maintain employee records, and track required certifications (e.g., Food Handler cards).
- Develop, implement, and maintain HR policies and procedures tailored to club operations.
- Support performance management processes, including evaluations, goal setting, and employee development planning.
- Coordinate and track training programs, including safety, harassment prevention, and leadership development; ensure completion during onboarding and throughout employment.
- Manage seasonal workforce planning, including recruitment surges, onboarding, and offboarding processes.
- Oversee workplace safety programs and manage workers’ compensation claims.
- Maintain and optimize HRIS systems; ensure all employee documentation is completed, e-signed, and fully compliant.
Qualifications
- 2 years of HR experience, preferably within hospitality, private clubs, or service-oriented environments
- Strong knowledge of California labor laws and HR compliance requirements
- Experience supporting both hourly and salaried employees
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a strong employee- and member-service mindset
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with professionalism and discretion
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Proficiency in HRIS platforms, payroll systems, and Microsoft Office
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Paycom or similar HRIS/payroll systems
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- HR certification (SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR)
- Experience in a private club, golf course, or hospitality setting
- Bilingual (English/Spanish)
- Experience managing seasonal staffing models
