What are the responsibilities and job description for the In-Home Middle School Math Tutor position at Thrive Tutoring?
Thrive is a placement agency for part-time tutors and full-time teacher for in-home tutoring and learning.
We are hiring an an in-home math tutor for a middle school student in Austin, TX. We are seeking a math teacher with an engaging personality who is reliable, professional, and deeply knowledgeable in middle/high school math.
Duties:
- Prepare high-impact lessons in advance of each tutoring session--gather materials, prep lesson, and monitor student progress
- Lead engaging, one-on-one tutoring sessions that are tailored to the needs and goals of each student
- Travel to the home of the student to conduct tutoring sessions
- Communicate promptly and professionally with Thrive team, students, and families
- Work with Thrive team and families to schedule tutoring sessions
- Establish an open line of communication with student’s teacher(s) in order to gain insight into the student’s needs, learn about the teacher’s lesson plans and class objectives, and provide the teacher with updates on progress during tutoring sessions
- Review and analyze various formative assessment results
- Collaborate with team on a detailed learning plan that is tailored to student needs and academic goals
- Provide parents with feedback after each session
- Provide student with post-session checklist of action items/reminders
- Follow through on all action items and commitments
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in education preferred
- Math teaching background preferred
- Must be HIGHLY dependable and responsible
- Excellent communication skills, including an exceptional ability to build rapport with students and parents
- Deep content knowledge in middle/high school math
- Experience teaching, tutoring or coaching teenagers and providing feedback to their parents
- Impressive academic credentials that demonstrate a love for learning and educating others
- Commitment to superior customer service, including punctuality and fast responses to emails, texts, etc
- Impeccable attention to detail
- Self-starter, resourceful, and eager to work in a start-up environment
- Track record of leading students to results
- Experience developing impactful lesson plans aligned to student needs and learning goals
Commitment:
- Starting with 1 hour per week, ideally Tuesdays in the 1-5pm range, might add a second day in the future
- In-home sessions in the South Austin area (78745)
Job Type: Contract
Pay: $40.00 - $80.00 per hour
