Position Summary
The Medical Office Receptionist is responsible for providing front-office support while also assisting with medical billing and administrative tasks. This role requires strong customer service skills, attention to detail, and knowledge of insurance verification and claims processing to ensure efficient office operations.
Key ResponsibilitiesFront Desk / Reception Duties
- Greet and check in patients in a professional and friendly manner
- Answer and manage incoming phone calls, schedule appointments, and respond to inquiries
- Verify patient demographics and insurance information
- Collect copayments, deductibles, and outstanding balances
- Maintain patient records in the electronic medical record (EMR) system
- Ensure confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations
Billing & Administrative Duties
- Verify insurance eligibility and benefits prior to patient visits
- Prepare and submit claims to insurance companies (electronic and paper)
- Review claims for accuracy and completeness before submission
- Post insurance payments and patient payments
- Follow up on unpaid or denied claims and assist with appeals
- Communicate with insurance companies regarding claim status and issues
- Generate patient statements and assist with billing inquiries
- Maintain knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding basics
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional certification in medical billing or administration a plus!
- Minimum 1–2 years of experience in a medical office required
- Familiarity with EMR system -eClinicalWorks preferred
- Knowledge of insurance plans, including Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payers
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills
- Excellent communication and customer service abilities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic computer skills
