Position Summary

The Acute Care Computed Tomography (CT) Technologist provides health care services by assisting in diagnosis or treatment. This role involves performing CT procedures and related techniques to produce images for interpretation by licensed practitioners. The technologist operates a CT scanner to obtain diagnostic images and utilizes knowledge of imaging techniques and cross-sectional anatomy to create high-quality images for analysis by radiologists and other medical professionals. Responsibilities include modifying technical settings and adjusting scanning parameters to enhance images while minimizing unnecessary exposure. Regular quality inspections and maintenance of the scanner are also required according to manufacturer recommendations and organizational policies.

• Graduate of a Committee of Allied Health Education and Accreditation (CAHEA) accredited Radiology program or equivalent


• American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) R.T.(R) & advanced registry in CT, R.T.(CT)


• American Heart Association BLS certification required


• Two (2) years of radiology experience as a registered technologist

• One (1) year of previous CT experience in a trauma center (level I or II)

• Perform CT exams and procedures for NICU, CCU, ED, and other hospital departments upon medical staff request.


• Assist the Radiologist and other medical staff during examinations and procedures.


• Carry out ancillary duties to maintain proper distribution, billing, and archival of exams and procedures.


• Document all information required for proper interpretation, reporting, archiving, and retrieval of exams in designated areas.


• Retrieve orders and related health information to ensure timely performance and reporting of exams and procedures.


• Participate in the implementation, monitoring, and improvement of quality indicators as described in the strategic plan.


• Work independently in a highly complex, acute care inpatient setting.


• Train and support peers in the department.

• Exhibit sound judgment, patience, and professionalism at all times.


• Exercise tact, discretion, and sensitivity while maintaining confidentiality.


• Perform essential job functions successfully in a busy and stressful environment.


• Learn current and new computer applications and office equipment utilized in the organization.


• Demonstrate strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.


• Analyze, organize, and prioritize work while meeting multiple deadlines.


• Work varied shifts and participate in call rotation as required.

• Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds to assist with patient needs or carry equipment/supplies.


• Work for extended periods requiring sitting, walking, or standing for eight or more hours daily.


• May necessitate working beyond a standard 40-hour workweek, including weekends and after-hours shifts.


• Proficient in effective communication, both in person and through various technologies.


• Ability to de-escalate challenging situations involving distressed patients or families.


• Perform repetitive tasks as needed to fulfill job responsibilities.
