About You

You’ll play an important role in pets’ lives by providing end-to-end care for our precious patients. Your life-changing work will range from the hands-on care of facilitating outpatient treatments and performing laboratory tests, to support services including admitting and discharging patients.

Your Experience & Skills

  • Veterinary technician licensure required
  • 1-2 years of clinical experience
  • An Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree from an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program preferred; or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

As an Oncology Veterinary Technician, you will work alongside our Oncologist utilizing state-of-the-art equipment that includes, but not limited to:

  • Ultrasound
  • CT
  • Digital x-ray

Oncology Technicians will use a variety of skill sets that include:

  • Venipuncture
  • Monitoring of vital signs
  • Obtaining histories
  • Assisting with bone marrow transfers
  • Chemotherapy
  • Client communication
  • Medication administration
  • IV catheterization

We specialize in emergency care, internal medicine, oncology, and surgery for dogs and cats in Decatur, Atlanta, Midtown, Dekalb, and Gwinnett.

Saint Francis Veterinary Specialists was founded in 2007 by Dr. Laura Smallwood. It was her dream to create an environment where excellent medical care and patient comfort were equal priorities for all team members. Whether your pet is referred to one of our specialists by your family veterinarian or has an urgent need that requires a late night visit to our ER, your pet will receive excellent care in a calm and caring environment with a personal touch that is unique to specialty and emergency medicine.

You’re Willing And Able To

  • Support veterinarians to ensure quality veterinary care, advocate for pets, and educate clients.
  • With each hospital function, assist veterinarians and the medical team to maximize productivity and maintain positive patient flow.
  • Assist with surgeries and procedures in accordance with your state's Veterinary Practice Act outlined for credentialed veterinary technicians.
  • Communicate with clients about individualized pet health concerns and offer guidance on Thrive Membership options, medications, and additional treatments.
  • Assist in maintaining relevant, comprehensive medical records with the support of practice systems.
  • Obtain relevant health history and information from clients and maintain medical charts.
  • Use safe restraining techniques, follow standard protocols, and sustain clean, sterile, organized treatment areas, exam rooms, and labs.
  • Be willing to guide, mentor, and support fellow team members.
