Positions:

  • Family Peer Recovery Specialist – Anoka County (20 hours/week)
  • Family Peer Recovery Specialist – Dakota County (20 hours/week)

Reports to: Executive Director
Status: Part-Time (20 hours/week each), Non-Exempt
Compensation: $23/hour, PTO (pro-rated), paid sick leave, paid trainings, cell phone allowance
Schedule: Flexible afternoons and evenings required
Location: Hybrid – primarily community-based within assigned county

Thrive! Family Recovery Resources is a Minnesota nonprofit dedicated to bringing hope, help, and healing to families impacted by substance use disorder. We believe recovery is not just possible, it’s contagious. Through evidence-based practices and compassionate peer support, we help families rebuild relationships, restore dignity, and reclaim hope.

About the Role

Thrive is seeking two part-time Family Peer Recovery Specialists (FPRS) to serve families in Anoka County and Dakota County. This is an outgoing, versatile position ideal for someone who thrives in a dynamic, community-centered role. You'll walk alongside families navigating substance use challenges, offering guidance, support, and hope through your own lived experience.

Whether leading support groups, facilitating education sessions, connecting families to resources, or offering a listening ear, you’ll be a vital source of strength and connection in your county.

This role also includes meeting key deliverables tied to county-funded grants, requiring accountability, timely documentation, and a results-oriented mindset.

Each 20-hour/week position offers flexibility, purpose, and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in local lives. Thrive provides the tools and training—you bring your compassion, story, and commitment to recovery.

Key Responsibilities
Family Peer Recovery Support

  • Build trusting, supportive relationships grounded in lived experience and empathy.
  • Help families identify goals and develop personalized recovery plans.
  • Connect families with treatment programs, community resources, and support networks.
  • Provide confidential guidance via Thrive’s Helpline.
  • Facilitate educational workshops and family support groups within your county.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and uphold professional ethics and boundaries.
  • Meet program requirements and reporting deliverables associated with county grants.
  • Collaborate effectively with internal teams and county partners to ensure service goals are met.
  • Adapt to the evolving needs of families and communities in a flexible, solution-oriented manner.

Community Outreach & Engagement

  • Represent Thrive at community events and local recovery initiatives.
  • Build partnerships with treatment providers, schools, and service organizations.
  • Promote Thrive’s mission and increase awareness of family-centered recovery resources.
  • Collaborate with team members to strengthen family support throughout Minnesota.

Additional Duties

  • Attend trainings and continuing education to maintain Peer Recovery Specialist certification.
  • Contribute feedback and ideas to enhance Thrive programs and resources.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Lived Experience: You have supported a loved one (adolescent or adult child) through substance use challenges and recovery.
  • Certification: Certified Peer Recovery Specialist credential, or willingness to complete certification with Thrive’s support.
  • Communication: Strong listening, facilitation, and interpersonal skills; ability to engage families with empathy.
  • Flexibility: Able to work afternoons and evenings, with occasional weekends.
  • Technology: Comfortable using Microsoft 365 and online documentation systems.
  • Professionalism: Ability to maintain boundaries, make ethical decisions, and manage stress effectively.
  • Transportation: Valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle, insurance, and ability to travel within assigned county.
  • Background Check: Thrive values diverse life experiences and reviews applicants individually.

Preferred:

  • Bilingual, bicultural, or experience working with diverse communities.
  • Cultural humility and commitment to ongoing learning.
