The Director of Educational Services oversees the leadership, administration, and supervision of both Residential and Day School special education programs and services. This role entails crafting the annual master schedule for instructional programs, ensuring a coherent learning journey aligned with the school’s philosophy and educational objectives. Additionally, the Director maintains an educational philosophy and school culture that cultivates cooperation and active participation among teachers and students.
Supervising the instructional programs involves evaluating lesson plans and regularly observing classes to promote the use of diverse instructional strategies and materials, informed by research on learning and child/adolescent development. Furthermore, they plan, implement, and facilitate professional development sessions for teachers and support staff, fostering ongoing growth through effective induction procedures and continuous training opportunities.
Ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations, the Director stays abreast of changes in educational laws, policies, and practices, and communicates their impact on students in a residential school setting. They also oversee the maintenance of school records, facilitate staff meetings as necessary, and liaise with the Department of Education.
In addition to administrative responsibilities, the Director actively participates in the Virginia Association of Independent Specialized Education Facilities (VAISEF), fulfilling requirements such as committee membership, representation in statewide entities, or holding leadership positions within the association. They also submit student outcome data and attend VAISEF conferences to remain engaged with industry trends and best practices. Complete and submit student outcome survey by annual deadline. Attend at least annual conference, either Spring or Fall.
Maintaining the utmost confidentiality, the Director ensures compliance with HIPAA privacy rules and facility policies regarding students' and residents' personally identifiable health information. They also fulfill mandatory staff development requirements mandated by regulatory and accrediting agencies.

Position Qualifications
Education : Master's Degree in an approved program for special education or school administration and supervision.
Must be at least 19 years of age per Commonwealth of Virginia Interdepartmental Regulation of Children’s Residential Facilities.
Experience: Three (3) years’ experience in a psychiatric/residential treatment or special education setting
Licenses/Certificates
Postgraduate Professional License by the Virginia Department of Education
Endorsements by the Virginia Department of Education: School Administration and Supervision, or Special Education
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
First Aide

Valid Virginia Driver's License in good standing
Skills, Knowledge And Abilities

Demonstrate knowledge of: the necessary principles and application of theory into practice for effective instruction and positive behavioral supports that are beneficial for implementation with residents / students with behavioral and learning challenges.
