POSITION SUMMARY:

The Registered Nurse (RN) will practice within the legal boundaries of nursing through the scope of practice authorized in the Wyoming Nurse Practice Act and Wyoming State Board of Nursing Rules.  The RN will deliver care to patients utilizing the nursing process of assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. They will effectively interact with patients, significant others and other health team members while maintaining all standards of professional nursing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:

Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program with an associate degree or a Bachelor of Science in nursing. 

Licensure: Current and active Wyoming registered nurse license or multiple state license.  Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS.  TNCC preferred

Work Experience: 1-year experience in a healthcare setting preferred

Freedom from illegal use of drugs, and free from use and effects of use of drugs and alcohol in the workplace.

Persons who have been found guilty by a court of law of abusing, neglecting or mistreating individuals in a health care related setting are ineligible for employment in this position.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:

• Knowledge of HIPAA regulations, EMTALA regulations and other federal and state laws
• Ability to answer the telephone and converse in a professional manner 
• Internet, email, MS Office, and data entry skills
• Able to understand medical terminology

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Implement the nursing process which includes conducting a thorough and comprehensive nursing assessment, plan nursing care and nursing interventions consistent with the patient’s overall health care plan, utilize decision-making/critical thinking and clinical judgement to make independent nursing decisions and nursing diagnosis. 

Implement treatment and therapy, including medication administration and delegated medical and independent nursing functions. Follow policies and procedures established by the facility.  

Evaluate the patient’s response to nursing care and other therapy.

Identify changes in the patient’s health status and comprehend clinical implications of the patient’s signs, symptoms, and changes as part of expected or unexpected patient course and emergent situations.  

Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other members of the care team to devise individualized care plans for patients.  

Provide comprehensive nursing and health care education in which the RN assesses and analyzes educational needs of the learners; plans educational programs based on learning needs and teaching principles; ensures implementation of an education plan either directly or delegating selected aspects of the education to other qualified persons; and evaluates the education to meet the identified goals.  

May delegate components of assessment and care tasks, but shall retain responsibility for the nursing process itself and delegate only those tasks that are within his/her area of responsibility and scope of practice.  

Appropriately triage patients who present seeking medical assistance to the emergency room and handle emergent situations in a prompt, precise and professional manner. 

Communicate important patient information to provider during emergency situation in concise and prompt manner so provider may quickly and efficiently address the patient’s needs. 

Give a thorough, concise report at change of shift. Communicate pertinent information 

to the appropriate person in a timely manner.

Must attend a minimum of 10 monthly staff meetings per year and must attend all in-service training as required by supervisor.  Provide education information when instructed during staff meeting and participate in quality improvement processes. 

Will be crossed trained into other clinical departments at managers discretion.  Scheduled shifts, hours and department coverage is subject to change depending on needs of facility.  

Will follow federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations.  

Will keep up to date and will follow facility policy and procedures.
