JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: Certified Peer Specialist or Recovery Coach

REPORTS TO: Executive Director

FULL-TIME

JOB SUMMARY

The Certified Peer Support Specialist or Recovery Coach delivers peer support services to adults and family members affected by substance use disorder. This position will link individuals to resources and assist with guiding into treatment and recovery services through the sharing of lived experiences. This position is client-focused and supportive of all pathways of recovery.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Complete all essential trainings in order to deliver competent services, including:

1-hour review of Recovery Coach Training

1-hour HIPAA Training

1-hour De-escalation Skills Training

3-hour Motivational Interviewing (workshop or recorded videos)

1-hour Neuropharmacology with Opiates Training

Naloxone/NARCAN® Training

  • Complete any trainings required by the agency.
  • Arrive in a timely manner to appointments or venues after dispatched to provide peer support.
  • Communicate effectively with agency staff, those receiving peer support, and with supervisors.
  • Have working knowledge of resources in the service area that will assist the person being provided peer support to be successful in their defined recovery.
  • Feel comfortable sharing personal information about yourself including living with a substance use disorder and your recovery journey.
  • Record mileage and time spent with those receiving peer support accurately and within the defined timeframe.
  • Respond to the needs of individuals receiving peer support for substance use disorder during transition period from time of referral, to treatment, to recovery.
  • Attend regular meetings with supervisor and team, and as assigned.
  • Report incidents or issues timely and effectively to appropriate individuals; this may include your supervisor, those receiving peer support, or referring agency staff.
  • Maintain confidentiality of those receiving peer support at all times to protect their health information and respects their rights.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

1. Participate in organizational functions and activities as required.

2. Other duties as assigned.

RECOVERY COACH QUALITIES

  • Ability to establish empathy with those receiving peer support.
  • Practices cultural responsiveness by working with diverse populations.
  • Embraces the idea that there are many paths to recovery.
  • Maintains flexible hours to accommodate the needs of those they serve, as well as the referring agency.
  • Maintains a positive and enthusiastic outlook when working with clients.
  • Works professionally with first responders and other public agencies.
  • Possesses professional boundaries when working with those receiving peer support.
  • Recognizes and understands their own mental health needs.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

High school diploma or equivalent is required prior to entering into Recovery Coach training. Must have or obtain Recovery Coach training or equivalent within 3 months of hire.

Must be up to date on vaccinations (TDAP, MMR or Titers) and have had negative TB test in the past year.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

48 hours Wisconsin Certified Peer Specialist Certification Training and/or

30 hours CCAR Recovery Coach Academy or equivalent education

EXCLUSION FROM FEDERAL PROGRAMS

Employee may not at any time have been or be excluded from participation in any federally funded program, including Medicare and Medicaid. This is a condition of employment. Employee must immediately notify his/her manager or the Clinic’s Compliance Officer if they are threatened with exclusion or becomes excluded from any federally funded program.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $15.00 - $18.00 per hour
