Overview:
The Paralegal performs intricate and high-level tasks required to manage day-to-day case support for all firm attorneys in the “Essential Duties and Responsibilities” outlined below. This list is not designed to be an exhaustive list of duties and responsibilities for the Paralegal. This position demands a high level of autonomy, organizational skills, and attention to detail with excellent follow through on every task or project.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Save all emails received in Practice Panther in the appropriate matter using the firm’s standard naming conventions and protocols;
- Prepare medical records authorizations from opposing counsel/plaintiff as assigned;
- Calendar/docket all court and other case-related deadlines
- Create calendar invite Outlook calendar and send to assigned attorney
- Schedule reminders in Outlook at appropriate intervals prior to the deadline
- Create task/event in Practice Panther and assign to assigned attorney
- Schedule reminders in Practice Panther at appropriate intervals prior to the deadline;
- Schedule depositions, mediations and arbitrations as assigned
- Create calendar invite Outlook calendar and send to assigned attorney
- Schedule reminders in Outlook at appropriate intervals prior to the deadline
- Create task/event in Practice Panther and assign to assigned attorney
- Schedule reminders in Practice Panther at appropriate intervals prior to the deadline;
- Draft case documents as assigned by attorney, including pleadings, subpoenas, discovery, disclosure statements (including supplemental disclosure statements)
- Schedule follow up and other deadlines as necessary to ensure responses are followed through, if appropriate
- Meet regularly with assigned attorneys for follow up on deadlines, assignments, and work
- Enter billable time daily
Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
- Superior interpersonal skills to communicate with opposing counsel, medical providers and others related to case and document management;
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail;
- Proven time management skills with a proven ability to set, meet and follow deadlines;
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
- Strong ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate;
- Strong ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality;
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software;
- Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organization’s billing system and document management system.
Education and/or Experience:
- Some college level courses at a community college or four-year university a plus
- A minimum of five (5) years of experience as a paralegal for a law firm, preferably insurance defense or corporate in-house litigation experience
