What are the responsibilities and job description for the Spotter position at Thomas Keller Logistics Group?
We are now hiring yard spotters to join the team at our Defiance location! Located at 24862 Elliott Rd., Defiance, OH 43512. If you're looking for long-term employment with a company you can grow with, this is the position for you!
The spotter is responsible for operating a yard spotter truck (single-person cab) to maneuver loaded and empty semi-trailers throughout the yard and back them into docks. CDL experience is required. This person will also assist in the warehouse during downtime: operating a forklift, verifying inventory counts, ensure inbound/outbound shipments are free of damage, scanning and placing product in proper storage bays. Forklift experience is required.
Must pass a drug screen and a criminal background check prior to employment.
1st shift
Sunday through Wednesday AND Wednesday through Saturday
Hours: 6 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Pay: $19.00/hour
2nd shift
Monday through Friday
Hours: 4 p.m. - 12 a.m.
Pay: $20.00/hour
What you'll be doing:
- Check with Manager, Supervisor or Clerk for job orders.
- At the beginning of each shift, inspect the yard truck. Check for damage or problems and report them to your Manager/Supervisor. Document inspection on pre-operation inspection sheet.
- Lock out / tag out unsafe or inoperable equipment.
- Complete full yard checks upon request.
- Operate the truck in a safe manner at all times, maintaining speed and securing equipment before, during and after any movement.
- Use radio equipment for communication in a respectable manner.
- Assist in warehouse during downtime:
- Load, unload, and place product in proper storage bay stacked straight and neat.
- Verify counts of incoming products, make necessary adjustments on paperwork, and initial any changes.
- Ensure inbound and outbound shipments are free of damage and document or report immediately to supervisor.
- Sign and date the paperwork when load is finished.
- Accurately input information as trained with scanner, documenting all functions performed.
- Ship accurate number of pieces per load worksheet.
- Assist with inventory counts and proper stock rotation.
- Duties associated with housekeeping to follow and maintain 5S standards in truck.
- Comply with OSHA standards and use safety equipment as required (high visibility, back support, etc.).
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
- Report immediately any and all incidents occurring in the yard (i.e., damage to property, near misses, accidents, etc.)
- Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
What we're looking for:
- Capable of working safely, following safety procedures, and operating equipment safely, and recognizing and responding to unsafe working conditions.
- Communicate effectively with Manager/Supervisor and other associates.
- Ability to take direction from Manager/Supervisor.
- Work well with the team.
- Establish priorities, work independently, and proceed with objectives with supervision.
- Capable of completing accurate counts.
- Knowledge of WMS system.
- Knowledge of Industrial Truck Operational Procedures, including ability to handle product without damaging and the ability to use clamps, forks, and other attachments as needed.
- Ability to stoop, push, pull, bend, reach, and lift up to 50 lbs. regularly.
Additional Qualifications and Experience:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must obtain Yard Truck Certification through in-house training.
- Must obtain Industrial Truck Certification through in-house training if necessary.
- Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as requested by Supervisor.
- PPE as required by each facility - refer to handbook for specific requirements.
Working Conditions:
- Must be able to work outdoors in all elements.
- Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
