Role Description
Thomas Industrial Fabrication is seeking a Mechanical Designer to support the design, development, and execution of custom industrial fabrication projects. This role is ideal for someone who not only excels in design, but also understands how those designs translate to the shop floor and field installation.
You will work closely with fabrication teams, project managers, and leadership to deliver practical, buildable solutions for industrial systems and equipment. This is a hands-on engineering role where attention to detail, organization, and real-world problem solving are critical.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop mechanical systems, components, and assemblies using Autodesk Inventor
- Create detailed 3D models, fabrication drawings, and BOMs for shop and field use
- Collaborate with shop personnel to ensure designs are practical, efficient, and buildable
- Perform reverse engineering of existing equipment and systems
- Support project execution from concept through fabrication and installation
- Maintain organized documentation, revisions, and drawing control
- Assist with troubleshooting and design improvements during fabrication and installation
- Coordinate with vendors and internal teams on materials, specifications, and timelines
Qualifications
- Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor (required)
- Strong working knowledge of mechanical design principles and fabrication processes
- Experience with structural steel, industrial equipment, or custom machinery design preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across teams
- Self-motivated with a practical, problem-solving mindset
