What are the responsibilities and job description for the eCommerce Manager position at Thomas Cattle Company?
Thomas Cattle Company | Remote within the Treasure Valley, ID | Full-Time, Salaried | $65,000 to $75,000 Monthly Bonuses
You don’t wait for permission. You notice the broken discount code before a customer emails about it. You’ve rebuilt a Klaviyo flow at 9 p.m. because you knew it could convert better. You’d rather be handed a channel and the trust to run it than a task list and a manager watching over your shoulder. If you want to own an e-commerce business, the results, the team, and the decisions, this role was written for you.
About Us
Thomas Cattle Company is a fourth-generation family cattle ranch with operations in Idaho and Oregon. We sell our beef directly to consumers across the USA and within the Treasure Valley. We ship premium beef nationwide every week and offer local home delivery throughout the Treasure Valley. We also run wholesale and CPG channels, each with its own leader, so this role is focused entirely on direct-to-consumer.
We are lean, scrappy, and growing. The e-commerce side is three people. We don’t have a playbook for every situation, and we’re not looking for someone who needs one. We build as we go, we fix things fast, and we expect everyone here to act like an owner. Perishable product shipped across the country leaves no room for “that’s not my job.”
The Role
You’ll own our direct-to-consumer e-commerce channel from end to end, with a goal of driving 20% year-over-year growth and continual improvement in profitability. You report directly to the owner and lead two team members: a Fulfillment Specialist and a Service and Communications Specialist.
Your days will include:
- Running our Shopify store: products, pricing, collections, apps, checkout, and anything that breaks
- Planning and executing email and SMS marketing in Klaviyo, including campaigns, flows, and segmentation
- Using Google Analytics to understand what’s working, what’s not, and what to do about it
- Overseeing shipping operations in ShipStation, making sure perishable orders go out correctly and on time
- Leading your two direct reports remotely through email and phone, setting clear expectations, holding them accountable, and keeping them motivated without being in the room
- Visiting our fulfillment sites 1 to 2 times per month to meet with your team in person
- Stepping in on fulfillment and customer communications when the team needs backup
- Representing TCC at local promotional events, including occasional evenings and weekends
About the pace: It’s fast, and it changes direction often. In a single morning you might troubleshoot a Shopify app conflict, approve a Klaviyo campaign, resolve a shipping exception, and coach a team member through a tough customer call. If constant task-switching drains you, this isn’t the right fit. If it energizes you, keep reading.
What Success Looks Like at 6 Months
- You have complete ownership of the e-commerce channel, and leadership trusts it’s handled
- You catch and fix mistakes before leadership ever knows they happened
- You make decisions with the bottom line in mind, not just what looks good
- Your team is accountable, clear on expectations, and genuinely encouraged by your leadership
- You are proactive, bringing us problems you’ve already solved and opportunities we hadn’t seen
What We’re Looking For
Technical skills (required). We mean real, hands-on depth, not “I’ve used it.”
- Shopify: You’ve managed a live store yourself, including products, variants, apps, theme settings, discounts, and troubleshooting when something breaks
- Klaviyo: You’ve built and optimized flows and segments, not just sent campaigns someone else designed
- Google Analytics: You can pull meaningful insights, diagnose a drop in conversion, and turn data into action
- ShipStation: You understand shipping workflows, automation rules, and carrier options
- Shopify app ecosystem: You can evaluate, install, configure, and troubleshoot apps without hand-holding
Strongly preferred:
- Experience with perishable products or cold-chain shipping
- Advanced Klaviyo experience, including SMS, A/B testing, and revenue attribution
- Meta Ads experience
Mindset and leadership (non-negotiable):
- Ownership. You treat the channel’s results as your results.
- Speed with accuracy. You move fast and still get it right, and when you don’t, you fix it before anyone has to ask.
- Remote leadership. You can lead, hold accountable, and motivate people you don’t see every day.
- Bottom-line thinking. You weigh every decision against margin, cost, and customer impact.
- Comfort with ambiguity. You figure things out, build the process, and document it for next time.
- Calm under pressure. Peak seasons, shipping delays, and urgent customer issues don’t rattle you.
You Won’t Thrive Here If...
- You need detailed instructions and a defined process before you can start
- You prefer to focus on one project at a time without interruption
- Your e-commerce experience is mostly surface-level or managed by someone else
- You’re uncomfortable holding people accountable, or you need to see your team daily to lead them
- You see occasional evening and weekend events, or pitching in on fulfillment, as beneath the role
- You’re looking for a stable, slow-moving corporate environment
We’d rather you know that now. Honesty up front saves us both time.
Location Requirement
You must live in the greater Treasure Valley (Boise, Meridian, Nampa, Caldwell, and surrounding areas). This role is primarily remote, but it requires local presence to:
- Visit our fulfillment sites 1 to 2 times per month to meet with your team
- Attend local promotional events, sometimes in the evenings and on weekends
- Serve as backup in fulfillment and customer communications when needed
All work is done on Mountain Time. Applicants outside the Treasure Valley will not be considered, and we are not offering relocation.
Compensation
- $65,000 to $75,000 base salary, depending on experience
- Monthly performance bonuses
- Employee discount on TCC beef
We’re a small, growing family business and don’t offer a traditional benefits package at this time. We’d rather tell you that clearly than bury it.
