Overview
Thomas Builders of Virginia is seeking a dedicated and experienced Construction Superintendent to oversee daily field operations on commercial and multifamily construction projects. This position is responsible for managing jobsite activities, coordinating subcontractors, maintaining project schedules, and ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with the company’s quality standards.
The ideal candidate is a strong leader and communicator with a solid understanding of construction processes, plan reading, scheduling, and jobsite coordination.
Duties
- Supervise daily construction activities and ensure work is performed in accordance with project plans, specifications, schedules, and company standards.
- Coordinate with project managers, subcontractors, vendors, inspectors, and other project team members to keep work moving efficiently.
- Review plans, specifications, and project documents to understand scope requirements and ensure proper field implementation.
- Monitor subcontractor performance, manpower, quality of work, and overall jobsite progress.
- Conduct regular site inspections to verify compliance with safety requirements, building standards, and project expectations.
- Identify and help resolve field issues, conflicts, delays, or coordination problems in a timely manner.
- Maintain clear communication with the office, project team, subcontractors, and other stakeholders regarding project status, changes, and challenges.
- Assist with project scheduling, material coordination, inspections, punch lists, and project closeout.
- Track jobsite activity, document progress, and utilize construction management software as needed.
- Help maintain cost awareness by coordinating resources efficiently and avoiding unnecessary delays or rework.
Qualifications and Skills
- Prior experience as a Construction Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, or similar field leadership role.
- Strong ability to read and understand construction plans, specifications, and project documents.
- Knowledge of commercial and/or multifamily construction practices preferred.
- Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to manage subcontractors and field personnel effectively.
- Ability to identify problems in the field and work toward practical solutions.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Familiarity with construction scheduling, quality control, inspections, and safety requirements.
- Comfortable using basic technology, email, and construction management software.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced construction environment.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Must be willing to travel to project sites throughout Central and Southwest Virginia using a company vehicle.
Position Details
- Full-time position.
- Company vehicle provided for work-related travel.
- Projects may be located in and around Lynchburg, Roanoke, Bedford, Botetourt, Waynesboro, Blacksburg, Harrisonburg, and surrounding areas.
- Compensation based on experience.
