Carl Thoma, the proprietor of Van Duzer Vineyards, is accepting applications for a two-year Sales & Marketing Fellowship from bright early-career professionals seeking to build experience in sales, marketing, and hospitality.
In this is a creative, project-based fellowship, you will work under Carl’s direction to create sales materials, conduct research, run analysis, and provide support to other assigned projects related to wine, Thoma scholarships and the art collection. The ideal applicant is curious, creative, highly organized, tech- and AI-savvy, and excited to learn more about these businesses from the inside. This opportunity is especially well-suited for candidates considering business school or longer-term careers in sales, marketing, consumer brands, or hospitality.
The Thoma family has owned and operated Van Duzer Vineyards since 1998, making it a defining producer of cool climate wines in the Van Duzer Corridor AVA of the Willamette Valley.
The Thoma Foundation advances access to the arts and education through their art collection, which includes more than 1,700 works shared through exhibitions and loans, and through scholarship programs that expand opportunity for students from the rural Southwest.
Key Responsibilities
- Marketing: create and update sales materials such as tech sheets, presentations and basic graphics for trade and consumer audiences.
- Sales: assist with distributor and key-account support - pulling depletions, updating distributor and pricing spreadsheets, keeping contacts updated.
- Research: gather and summarize information for Van Duzer, scholarships, and art collection projects, including demographics, school profiles, market research, and collection documentation.
Fellow Profile
- Recent college graduates and applicants with up to 1 year of relevant experience.
- Creative, inquisitive, and resourceful: able to gather data, synthesize findings, and create polished materials.
- Strong written and visual communication skills; comfortable telling a story with data and visuals.
- Excellent listener who asks clarifying questions and reports back with accuracy.
- AI-literate; quick learner with tools like Office/Google Suite, Canva, Adobe Creative Suite.
- Highly organized and dependable; can manage deadlines, details, and follow-up.
- Genuine interest in wine, hospitality, and consumer brands.
- Must be 21 and comfortable working with wine.
Location
Hybrid role based in Chicago or Dallas, with monthly office visits required and additional in-office time available for collaboration and mentorship. Full-time and available to work between the hours of 8:30am and 5:00pm CT.
