What are the responsibilities and job description for the Specimen Runner position at Think Aksarben?
Hours: Monday - Thursday from 7AM to 4:30PM.
Friday from 7AM to 1:30PM.

JOB SUMMARY:
The laboratory specimen processor is responsible for a variety of tasks, which include specimen receiving and sorting, lab support, and test data entry. This position requires a considerable amount of flexibility, attention to detail, and accuracy.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Pickup and delivery specimens from the floors to the lab
- Attention to detail, and ability to multi-task
- Needs to be able to handle working in a fast pace, repetitive environment
- Ensure specimens and requisitions are correctly labeled
- Should be able to work independently and in a team
- Flexible schedule to accommodate business needs
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of phlebotomy procedures and equipment, accessioning, verifying specimens and specimen requirements
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Knowledge of HIPAA privacy rules.
- Skill in communicating in a professional manner, both verbally and in writing.
- Skill in planning, organizing, and time management.
- Skill in using a computer and a variety of software, including Electronic Health Records (EHR) software, Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook.
- Skill in managing multiple priorities and problem solving.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure to meet established goals and objectives.
- Ability to maintain high levels of professional and personal integrity.
- Ability to convey professional demeanor and sound judgment in dealing with patients care, protection of patient privacy, and confidentiality.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- HS Diploma, GED, or 1 years of similar work experience
- Must possess excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and PC experience
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:
This role operates in a healthcare setting. This position requires frequent standing, walking, and computer work. This position allows employee to moderately vary physical position or activity for comfort. Must be able to:
- Stand 80% or longer of workday.
- Walk 80% or longer of workday.
- Sit 10% of workday.
- Requires ability to lift and maneuver up to 35 pounds occasionally.
- Requires employee to: bend, squat, kneel, and reach above shoulder level occasionally and twist occasionally.
- Requires repetitive use of hands for: simple grasping, fine manipulation, computer use.
- Requires all sensory skills (speech, vision, smell, touch, and hearing) corrected to near normal range.
