Responsibilities
- Greet patients warmly upon arrival, ensuring a friendly and professional front desk experience
- Collect and verify patient information, including insurance details, personal data, and medical history
- Review and update patient records within Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems such as Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, eClinicalWorks, or Dentrix
- Verify insurance coverage, perform insurance eligibility checks, and assist with insurance authorization processes
- Schedule appointments accurately using medical scheduling software and coordinate with clinical staff to optimize patient flow
- Assist with documentation review to ensure completeness and compliance with HIPAA regulations and medical coding standards like CPT, ICD-10, ICD-9
- Maintain organized medical records, file paperwork appropriately, and manage multi-line phone systems with excellent phone etiquette
- Support administrative tasks such as data entry, filing, and managing patient inquiries via phone or in person
- Collaborate with medical billing teams to facilitate accurate coding and billing processes for Medicare, Medicaid, or private insurers
Requirements
- Proven experience in a medical office setting or healthcare environment with strong clerical skills
- Familiarity with EMR systems such as Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, eClinicalWorks, Dentrix or Eaglesoft is highly preferred
- Knowledge of medical terminology, CPT coding, ICD coding (ICD-10/ICD-9), and insurance verification procedures
- Ability to review clinical documentation thoroughly for accuracy and completeness
- Excellent computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel) and health information management software
- Strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally in both English and bilingual capacities if applicable
- Experience working at a front desk or as a medical receptionist in clinics or dental offices is advantageous
- Attention to detail with excellent typing (including 10 key), filing, and organizational skills
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations to ensure patient confidentiality at all times
- Ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining professionalism
