This position is responsible for dispensing medication directly to patients, updating computer systems and maintaining other records as designated to comply with State and Federal policies. Work Start Time is 5:45 AM, Monday-Friday and 6:45 am alternating Saturdays may be required. Clients will be served in person.
Clinical Responsibilities
- Medication Administration
- Prepare and administer methadone or buprenorphine according to the prescribed dosage.
- Monitor patients for adverse reactions or side effects during and after dosing.
- Ensure proper documentation of all medication administration.
- Patient Monitoring
- Assess patients for withdrawal symptoms, intoxication, or signs of overdose before administering medication.
- Monitor patients post-dosing to ensure safety, especially for new patients or those on adjusted dosages.
- Evaluate patients' progress in coordination with other healthcare providers.
- Medical Assessment
- Perform routine health checks, including vital signs and physical assessments.
- Identify and report medical concerns requiring further evaluation or emergency intervention.
- Education and Counseling
- Provide education about methadone or buprenorphine, including its purpose, effects, and proper use.
- Reinforce adherence to the treatment plan and provide support for recovery efforts.
- Drug testing
- Performing urinalysis sample collection and test result entry.
- Understand the clinical benefits and limitations of urine screens, toxicology, and other testing procedures.
Administrative Duties
- Record Keeping
- Maintain accurate and compliant records of all doses administered.
- Document patient interactions, observations, and any adverse reactions.
- Inventory Management
- Track and maintain inventory of methadone and buprenorphine supplies to ensure compliance with regulations.
- Conduct regular audits and report discrepancies as required.
- Compliance with Regulations
- Adhere to federal, state, and facility-specific protocols for handling and administering controlled substances.
- Ensure proper security and storage of medications.
Patient Interaction
- Screening
- Verify patient identity before administering medication to prevent errors or misuse.
- Assess patients for suitability to receive their medication that day (e.g., sobriety status).
- Support and Advocacy
- Serve as a compassionate resource for patients navigating the challenges of opioid use disorder.
- Collaborate with case managers, counselors, and other healthcare professionals to support holistic care.
- Crisis Management
- Respond to emergencies, such as overdose or severe withdrawal symptoms, following established protocols.
- Administer naloxone (Narcan) or initiate emergency care when necessary.
Coordination and Communication
- Team Collaboration
- Work closely with physicians, counselors, and caseworkers to ensure integrated care.
- Communicate observations and patient concerns to the broader care team.
- Program Support
- Participate in team meetings to discuss patient progress and refine treatment plans.
- Educate patients and families about other resources, including counseling and support groups.
Other related duties as requested.
