Role Description
This is a contract, on-site role for a Recreation Therapist based in Dallas, TX. The Recreation Therapist will be responsible for planning and executing therapeutic recreation programs, documenting progress notes, and designing activities that promote wellness, independence, and emotional health. Utilizing techniques such as recreational therapy and art therapy, the therapist will help individuals achieve therapeutic goals, contribute to treatment planning, and foster positive outcomes.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Recreational Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation, or related field
- CTRS preferred (or eligibility to obtain)
- Experience working with children/adolescents with IDD or emotional/behavioral needs
- Ability to work independently in community settings
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- CPR/First Aid (must have or be able to obtain)
- Ability to pass background check
- Strong communication and documentation skills
Preferred Experience
- Community-based or home-based service delivery
- Behavioral health or trauma-informed care
- Experience designing therapeutic activities for youth
- Familiarity with Medicaid or HHSC service environments
Pay & Pay Schedule
- Pay: $50 per hour (based on experience and degree level)
- Job Type: 1099 Independent Contractor
- Schedule: Flexible — you choose the clients and hours you accept
- Start Date: As soon as onboarding, training, and background checks are completed
Typical monthly earnings:
- Providers with limited availability often earn $1,200–$2,000 per month
- Providers who build a larger caseload commonly earn $2,500–$4,000 per month, depending on availability, travel, and consistency
Many recreational therapists hold multiple contracts or service lines. This role allows contractors to independently build a caseload that aligns with their financial goals and desired schedule.
