Summary : Through partnership with high schools, the Patient Care Technician-Youth Apprentice (PCT-YA) position allows students to perform regular schoolwork and obtain classroom and hands on training in the healthcare field. Under the supervision of the LPN, RN, or nurse leader, the PCT-YA performs patient-centered, evidence-based nursing care activities to meet the physical and psychosocial needs of the patient. Through collaborative practice with all members of the care team, is responsible for patient outcomes that meet the high quality of care provided by ThedaCare. Contributes to the goals of the department by being accountable for the delivery of compassionate, safe care and demonstrated commitment to continuous growth and professional development. Job Description: Job Responsibilities: Performs delegated patient care activities using evidence-based practice and specific competencies for the patient population served. Checks patients’ vital signs, height, and weight, as needed, based on patient type. Provides compassionate care and listens to patients’ concerns and guides them by answering any questions or concerns. Identifies and escalates changes in patient status or patient risks to prevent crisis. Collects clinical data and information on patients and reports to care team. Repositions, transfers, ambulates and transports patients. Assists patients with basic needs (such as hygiene, eating, using the restroom, and dressing). Obtains and reports patient intake and output. Provides care that is age appropriate, culturally specific, and developmentally appropriate in an environment that promotes patient safety. Demonstrates professional and therapeutic relationships with patients, families, team members, and providers Works with assigned leader to fulfill program requirements and documents learning outcomes Qualifications: Must be a high school junior or senior student and be at least 16 years of age Must have approval from school to enter the youth apprenticeship program Interest in healthcare field preferred American Heart Association HealthCare Provider Life Support (BLS) Qualities: Ability to support, advance and live our mission and evidence of such: Mission – Our reason for Being - To advance the health of our communities through excellence and discovery, inspiring each person to live their unique best life Ability to support, advance and work toward our vision and evidence of such.
