We are working with a commercial real estate group in Portland, OR is looking for a Senior Accountant to handle full-cycle property accounting across multiple properties. It’s a hands-on role focused on month-end, reporting, and with strong ownership and visibility.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Senior Accountant is responsible for managing the activities of the overall general accounting function. Will oversee, implement and maintain accounting systems, procedures and policies. This position ensures the accurate compilation, analysis and reporting of accounting data and acts as liaison between the company, insurers, and Tax Prepares in providing the required information and ensuring that proper information is maintained.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Works in alignment with Commerce’s Values-based culture.
- Responsible for the accuracy of all financial transactions, insuring proper source documentation and approvals.
- Reconciles all balance sheet accounts, revenue, and other accounts and where appropriate comparing to subsidiary systems and bank statements ensuring accurate financial reporting.
- Fully documenting year-end schedules and account reconciliations to include providing all requested documents and information required for tax return preparation.
- Produces accurate monthly Profit and Loss, Balance Sheet and Cash Flow reports providing meaningful insights into expense trends, budget variances, and statistics reflecting earnings, profits, cash balances and other financial results. Adhering to agreed upon financial reporting deadlines.
- Monthly Cash Flow Forecast for the upcoming twelve months.
- Understands basic GAAP accounting.
- Oversees Accounting Assistant to assure that payroll and accounts payable are processed accurately and timely.
- Responsible for employee benefits renewals and oversight of annual open enrollment.
- Basic understanding of Fair Housing laws and Oregon Landlord-Tenant laws.
- Acts as in-house expert on property management software, including web portal and trains Community Managers on property management software.
- Assists with administration and support of information technology systems with basic computer problem-solving and network administrator.
- Prepares Work Comp reports.
- Reconciles and projects triple-net charges for retail tenants.
- Understands tax rules sufficient to provide tax preparers with necessary data and provides financial reports to lenders.
- Maintains confidentiality. Information regarding Commerce is highly personal and confidential. Any breach of confidentiality is grounds for immediate termination.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Four-year business degree required, in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- 2-4 years related experience
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
