Job Objectives To provide direct services and advocacy to survivors affected by intimate partner violence.

Job Responsibilities:

1. Provide court advocacy.

Assist IPV survivors via in-person meetings in developing safety plans, assist in obtaining family offense petitions and orders of protection and follow up with survivors on pre-sentence investigations and court times and dates.

2. Maintain updated community referrals and resources for initial and follow-up resources for survivors and their families.

3. Document all correspondence with victims, prosecutors, police and parole officers, family members, community agencies and all other involved parties.

4. Maintain survivor and family safety during court sessions which includes keeping survivor and offender separated during sessions, providing police escort, if necessary, and maintaining confidentiality of survivor’s information.

5. If victim and/or children are in imminent or potential danger, overall safety and lethality are assessed, with appropriate referrals made to shelters, counseling services, social services and/or mental health agencies, housing services and other pertinent services or agencies.

6. Meet survivor and family members at court appearances, explaining all court procedures. Thereafter, follow-up is provided on an individual basis as needed.

7. Travel as needed for trainings/meetings. Occasional travel outside of Niagara Falls, NY. Reliable transportation is mandatory.

8. Other duties as assigned by Vice President of Programs.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Associates degree with 1-2 years experience in victim advocacy or a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or a related field (required).
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years experience in victim advocacy
  • Skills & Competencies:
  • Strong understanding of trauma-informed care.
  • Knowledge of the dynamics of domestic violence and associated risk factors.
  • Excellent interpersonal, crisis intervention, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with legal, medical, and social service systems.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to documentation and confidentiality.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $40,000.00 per year
