PRIMARY FUNCTION: Maintenance Technician II is responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of all YWCA commercial and residential facilities. This role performs a wide range of preventative, routine, and emergency maintenance tasks—including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and structural repair work—to preserve facility condition and support program operations. The position requires a practical, solutions focused mindset and strong attention to detail in maintaining both commercial and residential buildings, building systems, equipment, and common areas.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent; certificate in HVAC, electrical, building maintenance technology or relevant field required. HVAC 608 EPA preferred. 
  2. Must pass criminal, child abuse and neglect, and sex offender background checks.
  3. Three to Five years’ work experience as maintenance technician or equivalent position.
  1. Understanding of maintenance principles of electrical, HVAC systems, plumbing, and carpentry.
  1. Knowledge of general maintenance processes and methods. 
  1. Working knowledge of tools, common appliances, and devices. 
  1. Manual dexterity, mechanical aptitude, and strong troubleshooting skills. 
  2. Ability to lift 40-60 lbs., and perform duties requiring standing, bending, kneeling, climbing, and crawling. 
  3. Ability to work independently and with diverse populations. 
  4. Must pass criminal, child abuse/neglect, and sex offender background checks. 
  5. Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation. 
  6. Basic computer skills and willingness to learn work order/maintenance management systems. 
  7. Ability to follow written, verbal, diagram, and schedule-based instructions. 
  8. Commitment to YWCA policies, mission, and confidentiality requirements.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Facility Maintenance & Repair

  • Perform routine, preventative, and corrective maintenance across all YWCA facilities to maintain safe and functional buildings.
  • Inspect buildings, mechanical rooms, grounds, and equipment to identify potential issues and ensure compliance with health and safety standards.
  • Troubleshoot and repair: 
  • Structural issues (windows, doors, walls).
  • HVAC systems (ventilation, filters, thermostats). Refrigeration if have EPA 608 certification.
  • Electrical systems (outlets, bulbs, sockets, breaker panels, wiring issues).
  • Plumbing systems (leaks, clogs, fixtures, toilets, drains, water heaters).
  • Carpentry and aesthetic repairs (drywall, painting, flooring, caulking).
  • Install, maintain, and repair equipment, appliances, and building fixtures.

Safety, Emergency Response & Compliance

  • Inspect and maintain alarm, fire safety, and emergency systems; report issues promptly.
  • Apply preventative measures to reduce risk of future facility problems.
  • Respond to emergency maintenance calls during or outside regular work hours as needed.
  • Follow all OSHA, YWCA safety policies, and required reporting protocols.

Groundskeeping & Environmental Maintenance

  • Conduct general upkeep including  debris removal, outdoor repairs, and snow removal as needed.
  • Maintain parking lots, building exteriors, walkways, and outdoor program spaces.

Work Order & Documentation Responsibilities

  • Complete maintenance requests efficiently and accurately within required timeframes.
  • Track materials, parts, equipment use, and labor time.
  • Maintain maintenance logs, safety checklists, and regulatory documentation.

Collaboration & Organizational Responsibilities

  • Support YWCA team members, program participants, and visitors with professionalism and courtesy.
  • Attend team meetings, required trainings, and organizational events.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to mandatory reporting requirements.
  • Represent the YWCA positively within the community.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

 WORKING CONDITIONS AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

  • Work occurs at YWCA locations, off‑site locations, and occasional outdoor events.
  • Physical activities may include sitting, standing, bending, kneeling, climbing, balancing, stooping, crawling, and frequent movement.
  • Regular use of hand and finger dexterity; continual talking and hearing.
  • Lifting requirements: frequently up to 40 lbs; occasionally over 60 lbs.
  • Occasional exposure to:
  • Wet or humid conditions (non‑weather)
  • Moving mechanical parts
  • Fumes, airborne particles, or toxic chemicals
  • Bloodborne or airborne pathogens
  • Outdoor weather and extreme temperatures (non‑weather)
  • Work may take place in high or elevated areas; noise levels typically quiet to moderate.
  • Vision requirements include: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
  • Equipment used may include personal vehicles, laptop, and work cell phone.

 

   TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Orientation to YWCA Personnel Policies, Mission, Purpose and Core Values 
  2. Orientation to Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, Confidentiality, Mandatory Reporting 
  3. Other appropriate training and in-service which will occur during employment
