What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance Technician II position at Nazareth Inc.?
DESCRIPTION: In light of the CSJ Mission, Charism, Generous Promises and Our Sacred Work, the Maintenance Technician II is responsible for performing a variety of tasks related to the care and upkeep of the Nazareth Center and related properties including minor repairs, cleaning and maintenance.
COMPENSATION: commensurate with experience.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Performs skilled maintenance work for Center and related properties as needed; carpentry, plumbing, electrical and painting and uses appropriate hand and power tools.
- Performs regular surveillance of the Center and grounds identifying and evaluating risks that involve residents, employees and property and following through accordingly with appropriate repairs.
- Sets maintenance assignment priorities in accordance with guidelines and in collaboration with Center Maintenance Director/Environmental Services Director.
- Assists with servicing of Boilers, maintenance of HVAC system and fire alarm systems.
- In collaboration with the Center Maintenance Director/Environmental Services Director, coordinates and supervises the use of outside vendors for repair when appropriate.
- Performs moving and set up of equipment, furniture and deliveries.
- Disposes of waste and recyclables in an appropriate manner.
- Maintains maintenance areas, equipment and work area in a clean safe manner.
- Supervises and directs staff in absence of the Center Maintenance Director/Environmental Services Director.
- Other duties as assigned.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Highly proficient and skilled in one or more trades, carpentry, electrician, HVAC, etc.
- Ability to assess basic plumbing, electrical, HVAC, safety systems and carpentry.
- Ability to operate a variety of tools and power equipment with logic and cognizance of safety.
- Demonstrates knowledge of fire and safety plans and use of safety devices.
- Possess strong mechanical aptitude, strength, agility and very good large and small motor skills.
- Ability to drive pickup trucks, tractors and mowers.
- Must be able to understand simple instructions and have reading skills.
- Ability to direct others when appropriate.
- Ability to carry out verbal and written instructions and converse with residents, employees and guests.
- Ability to be self-motivated and to work alone, unsupervised and with others.
- Display ability to relate well and communicate effectively with the elderly and understand the individual dignity of residents, employees and guests.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Possess a valid Driver’s License.
- 3 to 5 years of hands-on maintenance experience in a commercial building or assisted living center highly desirable.
- Formal maintenance or trade experience preferred.
- Experience with elderly or geriatric population desirable.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITY REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to walk, stand for long periods, maintain balance, climb ladders, crouch, lift up to 60 pounds, bend, stoop and reach above shoulders.
- Ability to withstand extreme inside and outside environmental conditions.
- Exposure to weather, dirt, grime and mechanical equipment.
- Exposure to cleaning chemicals and detergents.
- Work a flexible schedule as needed
- On-call weekend or evening responsibilities may be included.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $21.54 - $25.00 per hour
