Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced and passionate Dance Instructor to work with our members and lead our classes. This role will be responsible for creating a safe and welcoming environment and teaching students of all ages, from beginners to advanced levels. The successful candidate will be a dynamic and creative instructor with excellent communication skills. The individual hired for this position will work under the direction of the Regional Programming Director and the Family Center Operations Director.
Essential Functions

Collaboration: Champions inclusion activities, strategies, and initiatives. Build relationships to create small communities. Empathetically listens and communicates for understanding when negotiating and dealing with conflict. Effectively tailors communications to the appropriate audience. Provides staff with feedback, coaching, guidance and support.
Operational Effectiveness:Provides others with frameworks for making decisions. Conducts prototypes to support the launching of programs and activities. Develops plans and manages best practices through engagement of the team. Effectively creates and manages budgets.
Holds staff accountable for high-quality results using a formal process to measure progress.
Personal Growth: Shares new insights. Facilitates change; models adaptability and an awareness of the impact of change. Utilizes non-threatening methods to address sensitive issues and inappropriate behavior or performance. Has the functional and technical knowledge and skills required to perform well; uses best practices and demonstrates up-to-date knowledge and skills in technology.
Qualifications
The Dance Instructor will meet the qualifications set forth by the Y in Central Maryland. Staff shall be of good character and reputation; capable of carrying out assigned responsibilities; capable of accepting training and supervision; and capable of communicating effectively both orally and in writing as applicable to the job responsibility. - Plan and teach dance classes, including setting up and breaking down the studio
- Develop and implement lesson plans that are tailored to the needs of each student
- Monitor and assess student progress and provide feedback
- Maintain a clean and organized studio space
- Provide individualized instruction and guidance
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and other staff members
- Participate in staff meetings and professional development opportunities
- Adhere to all safety regulation
- Attend and actively participate in all meetings as assigned

- Communicate the Y mission and objectives to the community.

Minimum qualifications include:
- Flexible Schedule, days, nights and weekends – this position requires significant amount of evening and weekend attendance
- Proficient computer skills
- Current CPR/AED/O2/First Aid certification (or within 30 days of hire)
- YMCA New Staff Orientation and 6 hours of child abuse prevention training
- At least 21 years of age
- Will be required to walk, stand, kneel, stoop, push, and lift up to 100 pounds.
- While performing duties the employee may occasionally work in the outside weather conditions, and is exposed to wet, cold and /or humid conditions.
- Continuous operations requiring attention to detail and multi-tasking.
- Will be exposed to cleaning supplies.
- Must be able to stand or sit for long periods of time.
- Must be physically able to successfully complete required certifications.
