Project Engineer – Design, Construction/Development

The Wolff Company, LLC
Scottsdale, AZ Full Time
POSTED ON 4/8/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 6/7/2026

Description

The Project Engineer (Design Focus) provides technical support to the Director of Design, with a primary emphasis on design standards development, documentation, and compliance for multifamily developments. This role supports the establishment and communication of design protocols and performs detailed reviews of contractor submittals and progress drawings to ensure alignment with established standards. This position is well suited for professionals who are highly organized, detail-oriented, self-directed, and strong communicators. The role operates in a hybrid work environment, with most work performed remotely, a required in-office day each week, occasional additional in-office days for key meetings, and limited site visits as needed.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Design & Construction Document Review

  • Perform detailed reviews of contractor submittals and shop drawings to verify conformance with company design standards
  • Review and backcheck progress drawings at a highly detailed level, coordinating revisions and tracking required changes through resolution
  • Identify inconsistencies or areas where design intent may be compromised and escalate issues as appropriate
  • Route submittals, RFIs, and related documentation (including non-Procore projects) to appropriate stakeholders and track timely responses

Design Standards & Information Management

  • Assist in maintaining, organizing, and updating the company’s design standards database
  • Support documentation of design protocols and assist in clearly communicating standards to internal teams and external consultants
  • Research architectural products, materials, and historical project information to inform design decisions
  • Organize complex technical information using tools such as Excel, Bluebeam, and PDF markups
  • Track outstanding design-related issues and follow items through to resolution
  • Prepare meeting agendas, meeting minutes, and follow-up documentation
  • Coordinate and communicate with consultant teams, development managers, and construction project managers to support project alignment

WHO WILL THRIVE IN THIS ROLE

This role is ideal for professionals who prefer detailed, office-based technical work focused on design review, document coordination, and standards compliance rather than daily field supervision. Strong candidates may come from backgrounds such as:

  • Construction Project Coordinator or Project Engineer roles who want to take the next step into a design-focused position
  • Professionals working for specialty contractors (architectural, envelope, trades, etc.) who want broader exposure to the full multifamily development and construction process
  • Individuals who enjoy reviewing drawings, submittals, and standards and take pride in accuracy, consistency, and follow-through
  • Candidates interested in long-term growth related to design standards, technical review, and design management

This is a hybrid role with a primarily remote work structure and a required in-office day each week, along with occasional in-office days for key meetings or special coordination needs. While most work is performed from home, the role is highly collaborative and involves frequent online meetings with design, development, and construction teams. The position is grounded in accountability, engagement, and detailed document review, and is best suited for professionals who are highly organized, self-directed, responsive, and comfortable collaborating in a virtual environment.

Requirements

  • 4 years of related experience within the construction industry
  • High School Diploma required; Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, and/or related preferred
  • General understanding of drawing development and entitlement process
  • Hands on experience with construction processes for plan distribution, contractor submittals and RFI’s
  • Must be able to read and interpret architectural and engineering drawings
  • Proficient in Excel and Word. Working knowledge of ProCore and Bluebeam.
  • Must be organized and detail-oriented with the ability to comprehend complex design documents and specifications
  • Ability to work on multiple projects at the same time
  • Self-motivated
