What are the responsibilities and job description for the Refrigeration Engineer II position at The Wittern Group?
The Refrigeration Engineer position will:
Develop and optimize refrigeration and cooling systems for performance, compliance, assembly, and fabrication. Ensure adherence to cULus, CE, Nom, NAMA, and other regulatory standards.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Perform thermal cabinet analysis and sealed system performance analysis.
• design refrigeration circuits, algorithms, select refrigerants, and select components;
• ensure compliance with DoE, UL, CE, NAMA, safety and environmental standards;
• troubleshoot and validate prototypes, verify Pilots, and Production transition.
• Support on Market production issues.
• Lead product certification efforts for all NPD & CI projects.
• stay attuned to UL/Intertek/CE/DoE/NAMA requirements.
• manage documentation.
• coordinate and host UL/Intertek auditors.
• coordinate testing with UL DoE certifiers
• design and execute test plans for regulatory approval.
• verify all agency compliance certifications.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
• Lead design, analysis, and implementation of modules, subsystems or functional elements with end-to-end responsibility (requirements → design → verification → handover).
•Perform detailed engineering tasks: stress/thermal/electrical analysis, simulation, system modeling, trade studies, tolerance analysis, failure mode analysis (FMEA), etc.
•Define test plans, lead test execution, analyze results, and drive corrective actions.
• Generate complete documentation: design specifications, interface control documents, drawings, software/firmware deliverables, test protocols, validation reports.
• Perform design reviews and mentor Engineer I staff in solving technical challenges, best practices, and domain knowledge.
• Interact with downstream stakeholders (manufacturing, test, quality, procurement, production) to support design for manufacturability, assembly, supply chain alignment, and component selection.
• Identify, escalate, and help mitigate technical risks, propose alternative solutions, and assist in project planning.
• Contribute to process improvements, tool enhancements, methodology refinements, and engineering standards within the team.
• Guide interns or co-ops and coordinate contributions of junior engineers.
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s or Masters degree in Mechanical or Refrigeration Engineering disciplines with 3–6 years of experience with a successful track record of engineering contributions. Progress toward may have or be working toward professional licensure (if applicable).
