Job Summary
We are seeking compassionate and dedicated Direct Support Staff to provide exceptional care and assistance to individuals with developmental disabilities, seniors, and those requiring specialized support. The role involves working closely with residents in group homes, assisted living facilities, or home and community care settings. The ideal candidate will be committed to promoting independence, safety, and well-being while fostering a respectful and supportive environment.
Duties
- Assist residents with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility support
- Monitor residents’ health status by taking vital signs and observing for changes in condition
- Administer medications following prescribed care plans and HIPAA regulations
- Support residents during meal preparation and feeding, ensuring nutritional needs are met
- Operate patient lifting equipment such as Hoyer lifts safely and effectively
- Maintain a clean and safe environment through light cleaning and sanitation tasks
- Document care activities accurately in compliance with healthcare standards
- Provide emotional support and companionship to residents, fostering a positive atmosphere
- Follow individualized care plans tailored to each resident’s needs, including dementia, Alzheimer’s, or autism care
- Respond promptly to emergencies with CPR or first aid as needed
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals, social workers, and family members to ensure comprehensive care
Skills
- Prior experience in group home, assisted living, or long-term care settings preferred
- Knowledge of patient monitoring, vital signs, medication administration, and HIPAA compliance
- Certifications such as CPR and First Aid required or willing to obtain upon hire
- Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities, autism, dementia, or memory care needs
- Ability to assist with ADLs and provide compassionate patient care in various settings including nursing homes or hospice care
- Strong observational skills for patient safety and health status updates
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely when required for resident transfers or mobility assistance
- Excellent communication skills for effective teamwork and resident interaction
- Compassionate attitude with a genuine desire to improve the quality of life for residents
