This role offers an exciting opportunity to support the State Bar IOLTA program, Pro Hac Vice program, Unlawful Practice of Law program, and working with the attorneys of the state under the direction of the Executive Director of the West Virginia State Bar. Although the work is not a typical paralegal caseload, it does require a motivated professional with a passion for law and a keen eye for detail. Your contributions will be vital in managing confidential information, streamlining workflows, and ensuring the accuracy of the Bar's files and database.

The Executive Director is the chief administrative officer for the agency and runs the day-to-day operations of the State Bar. The Paralegal will report directly to the Executive Director, and to the President and Board of Governors as needed.

  • Manage the Unlawful Practice of Law program, including reviewing new complaints, assisting in investigating claims, drafting communication, following up on committee directives, organizing agendas, and keeping committee apprised of updates.
  • Manage the Bar Blast weekly email to all attorneys, including ensuring consistent and relevant content, and reviewing Supreme Court orders for public comment requests.
  • Prepare committee agendas, attend meetings, prepare minutes, and draft letters.
  • Review, approve, and publish job announcements to the Bar's Career Services page and social media, and update various aspects of the West Virginia State Bar website.
  • Assist in the review of CLE courses for approval and manage deficiencies that arise.
  • Handle administrative duties including answering phones, data entry, scheduling meetings, preparing reports, and managing communication with professionalism.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information while adhering to strict data handling protocols and legal terminology standards.

Education, Knowledge, Skills, Experience, and Ability:

  • Bachelor's or Associate's degree preferred.
  • Five (5) years of experience as a paralegal preferred.
  • Outstanding verbal communication skills with strong analysis skills and familiarity with law office procedures.
  • Excellent writing skills with the ability to produce clear, concise correspondence and documents.
  • Effective team player with excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate diplomatically and professionally with a wide variety of constituencies and to work with a small but coordinated staff at the West Virginia State Bar.
