Job Description

The Newborn Care/Postnatal Care Specialist (PCS) helps guests to rest and recover by providing supportive, comforting, and compassionate care. NCS/PCS’s receive direction from Managers and Directors and collaborate with the Care team to meet identified goals of the guest and shift. You regularly communicate with the team related to any progress, concerns, questions, or issues that arise.

As a NCS/PCS caring for our guests, you will be essential to the mission of The Village Postnatal Retreat Center. You will be responsible for maintaining a safe, clean, and healthy work environment for guests and fellow teammates. NCS/PCS's demonstrate the ability to be flexible, organized, and professional. All NCS/PCS’s are expected to remain professional and supportive team players during periods of stress and emergency situations. As a member of The Village direct guest care team, you will be essential and valued by guests and team members alike.

Responsibilities

Guest Care

  • Work with parents to meet the goals within their plan of care, including lactation support and postpartum care
  • Communicate and document all guest care provided including assessments, plan, interventions, guest response, and follow-up
  • Work collaboratively with guest to create a schedule for the parent and baby that optimizes bonding, care, and rest
  • Assist/educate guests on how to take blood pressure, temperature, or any other vital signs suggested by their healthcare provider
  • Assist guest’s holistic pain management with services such as sitz baths and ice packs
  • Recognize acute changes in status and escalate to managers
  • Assist guests with pumping as needed
  • Clean and organize breast pump equipment and supplies
  • Store breast milk in refrigerator or freezer after checking that it has been labeled properly
  • Assist with handling requests by guests
  • Record and report changes in guest’s habits to supervisor
  • Prepare rooms for new guests including restocking, cleaning and organization
  • Maintain guest relations by solving problems and service recovery
  • Escalate any guest needs that are outside of scope for Doula/PCA
  • Other initiatives within scope set delegated by a manager

Baby Care

  • Maintain a hygienic baby room by cleaning supplies and equipment
  • Take daily weight and vital signs of babies
  • Observe babies in baby room
  • Bathe, feed, and diaper babies
  • Change bed (crib) linen minimum every 24 hours
  • Escalate any changes in behavior to manager
  • Other initiatives within scope delegated by a manager
  • Provide attentive care and supervision to infants in the nursery
  • Create a stimulating and engaging environment for children to learn and play
  • Plan and implement age-appropriate activities to promote physical, cognitive, and social development
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all children in the nursery
  • Assist with diaper changing, feeding, and other basic care tasks
  • Foster positive relationships with children and their families
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in the nursery area
  • Familiarity with infant care, including feeding, diapering, and soothing techniques
  • Strong communication skills to effectively interact with children, parents, and colleagues
  • CPR/First aid certification or willingness to obtain one
  • Ability to manage behavior effectively and promote positive discipline strategies

  • Report to work on time and is dependable for scheduled shifts

Qualifications

Experience and Skills:

  • 1 years Newborn Care, nursing assistant experience in a clinic, hospital or nursing home setting required
  • Postpartum and newborn care experience preferred either in hospital setting or private duty
  • Doula certifications, lactation/breastfeeding certifications, or newborn certifications preferred or willingness to acquire a certification
  • Passionate about improving maternal/baby care, support, and education
  • Demonstrates ability to be a collaborative and proactive team member and contributes to a healthy team dynamic
  • Demonstrates ability to be accountable for quality customer service and respond appropriately to a variety of personalities and situations
  • Demonstrates ability to deal with conflict in a positive manner. Has an awareness of, responds to, and considers the needs, feelings and capabilities of others
  • Demonstrates ability to be anticipatory to the needs of the client; to take initiative, be self-motivated and a proactive, independent, accountable, dependable performer
  • Strong communication skills with demonstrated ability to express ideas and information (both in written and oral form) clearly and concisely in a manner appropriate to the audience

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $25.00 - $28.00 per hour

Expected hours: 4 – 32 per week

  • Infants

Schedule:

  • 4 hour shift
  • 8 hour shift
  • After school
  • Day shift
  • Evening shift
  • Monday to Friday
  • Morning shift
  • Night shift
  • Overnight shift
  • Rotating weekends
  • Weekends as needed

Ability to Relocate:

  • San Francisco, CA 94109: Relocate before starting work (Required)
