JOB IDENTIFICATION
Position Title: POLICE OFFICER

JOB PURPOSE
Under the general supervision of a shift, section or unit supervisor, performs varied tasks
in providing for the safety and protection of life and property within the community and in
enforcing applicable federal, state, and iocal laws and ordinances. Performs these and
other related law enforcement activities on an assigned tour of duty in a 24-hour a day,
seven days-a-week sen/ice operation.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Works an assigned tour of duty performing various policing duties including patrol,
specialized or administrative tasks.
- Uses good Judgement in deciding a course of action in response to service calls,
stages.
- Takes appropriate law enforcement action as the result of an incident that may involve
and witnesses, pursuing subjects and arresting persons suspected of being involved in
crimes or misconduct.
- Carries out duties in conformance with federal, state, county and local laws and

KNOWLEDGE /SKILLS /ABILITIES
The position of Police Officer is filled through a competitive examination process that
establishes a two-year rank order eligibility list. Requirements for participation in the
examination process and other qualifications include:
- Minimum age of 20 years and under the age of 35 years by the date of the written
- U.S. citizen or alien lawfully admitted for permanent residence or an alien authorized to

- Possess a valid driver's license at the time of appointment.

EDUCA TION / TRAINING / EXPERIENCE

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
The functions of this position are representative of work exerting up to 50 pounds of force, but

seek out assistance when carrying out duties requiring exertion of 50 or greater pounds of
force. The employee must have adequate hearing in order to communicate with employees,
residents and the public. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision,

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk,
stand, walk, drive, listen, use hands to finger, handle or fed objects, tools or controls, reach

The employee on a frequent basis finds himself or herself in a sedentary position whether
