Information: The hourly pay range for this position is $39.5173 - $51.6961. The starting

hourly pay range is $39.5173 - $43.5678 (DOQ).

Brief Under general direction, performs technical civil and traffic engineering work

Descnption of moderate difficulty; Aids in the design & field inspection of civil & traffic

of Duties: engineering projects, including street resurfacing, water mains, sewers &
sidewalks; Duties include operation of surveying equipment, use of
AutoCad for engineering plan preparation, conducting speed studies and
traffic counts; Prepares quantities for preliminary cost estimates for water,
sewer, streets, alleys, and other public improvements; Researches
documents and historical information & maintains records; Interacts with
residents regarding engineering projects and related matters; Must be able
to foster and maintain positive professional relationships with other
engineering and surveying personnel, internal departments, contractors, and
the public; Performs other work-related duties, as assigned- Duties may
vary by season. Must follow all safety rules of the Village.

Reauired High school diploma required; Compietion of college course work desired,
Traininq and Engineering or related studies preferred; Three years' experience in sub-
Knowledqe: professional civil or traffic engineering, or combination of training &

experience; Demonstrated knowledge of mathematics through trigonometry
and its application to field surveying & engineering computations; Must
possess excellent verbal, written, and interpersonai communication skills;
Use of AutoCad, GIS, and relevant sun/eying applications; Famiiiar with
Microsoft Office Suite applications; Must possess and maintain a valid
Driver's License.

JOB IDENTIFICATION

Position Title: ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN

Salary Range: A 215

Department: Public Works

Division: Engineering

Reports to: Engineering Director

Supervises: None

joe PURPOSE

Under general direction, performs technical Civil and Traffic Engineering work of moderate
difficulty, participating in sub-professional field work and related work in the office.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Participates in the preliminary design and field inspection of Civil Engineering projects
such as street resurfacing, water main, sewer and sidewalk.
  • Uses AutoCad for engineering plan preparation.
  • Operates survey equipment and takes field notes.
  • Prepares reports, inspects & measures quantities for payment for various civii and traffic
engineering projects.
  • Researches departmenta! records for information and historical data on particular
locations. Researches documents of easements and contracts to support Senior
Technicians recommendations.
  • Assists with speed studies and traffic counts

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepares quantities for preliminary cost estimates for water, sewer, streets, alieys and
other public improvements.
  • Records data, prepares records and maintains requisite divisional files.
  • Assists other departments by reviewing and processing back-up information to be
incorporated into reports.
  • Under supervision, works directly with contractors in construction-related discussions and

problem resolution, prepares contracts quantities.

  • investigates and provides recommendations on citizen requests, and interdepartmenta!
requests.
  • interacts with residents regarding engineering projects and issues.
  • Performs other work-related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES

  • General understanding of engineering principies
  • Working knowledge of persona! computers and Microsoft Office Suite applications
  • Working knowledge and experience in AutoCad, GiS and relevant programs
  • Good knowledge of the principles, practices, techniques and instruments used in civil
engineering surveying and drafting
  • Good working knowledge of mathematics through trigonometry and its application to fieid
sun/eying and engineering computations
  • Ability to interpret construction specifications, plans and reguiations
  • Good knowledge of construction materia! testing in the field and the laboratory
  • Must possess excellent verba! and written communications skills
  • Working skill in performing technical computations, estimates, and studies in compiling
engineering data and statistics
  • Must be able to foster and maintain positive professional relationships with other
engineering and sun/eying personnel, intema! departments, contractors, and the public
  • Ability to interpret adherence to Village codes and engineering specifications on a variety
of construction jobs

EDUCATION / TRAINING / EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma required
  • Completion of college-ievel courses desirable; Engineering or related studies preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge of mathematics through trigonometry
  • Two years of experience in sub-professional civil or traffic engineering work, or an
equivalent combination of training and experience

OTHER NECESSARY REQUIREMENTS I LICENSES

  • Valid Driver's License required.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

The duties performed by this position are representative of "medium work" with occasional
exertion of approximately 50 pounds of force (removing & replacing manhole covers). The
work is both indoor and outdoor. The indoor environment is an office-type area that is quiet
except for offJce/communications equipment background noises. The outdoor environment is
normal "on-the-street" noises and construction sites, including noises from construction
equipment and the related work activities.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, taik,
listen, hear the normal range of sounds; use hands to handle or feel objects, tools or controls;
and reach with hands and arms. In the outdoor environment, the position requires physical
flexibility and normal endurance. The employee walks the job site to inspect, bends down to
mark and measure, and carries construction layout toois & equipment.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision for proofreading documents,
ability to adjust focus while working on hardware and be absent from colorblindness.
