Want to make an impact in a growing local, community-focused veterinary practice? The Village Animal Hospital, located in the vibrant community of Carlsbad Village, opened in early Spring 2023! We are looking for a relief/temporary veterinary technician to support our team during busy periods or short-term coverage. This is an excellent opportunity for a customer (and pet!) obsessed professional who wants to contribute to a five-star, community-based hospital without a long-term commitment.

At The Village Animal Hospital, we’re building something different. We strive to create a positive, professional, and welcoming experience for pets, pet parents, and veterinary team members alike. If you believe veterinary medicine can be done better and want to make a meaningful difference—even temporarily—come help us deliver exceptional care and be part of our evolving vision.

What you’ll be doing:

Under the direction of the Partner and Associate Veterinarians, in cooperation with the Registered Veterinary Technician and Client Support teams, you will coordinate and provide support for pet appointments and hospital admissions to include physical examinations, therapeutic procedures, diagnostics, and husbandry care. In addition, you will play a key role in ensuring our pet and pet parents have a five-star experience.

What you’ll bring:

  • Passion for helping pets and their humans alike;
  • Ability to interact and communicate (verbally and non-verbally) with professionalism, empathy, and respect both with clients and team members;
  • Flexibility to handle multiple tasks simultaneously in a sometimes stressful environment with evolving priorities;
  • Strong sense of personal accountability and reliability;
  • A customer-centric mindset; desire to go the extra mile to help a pet parent in need;
  • Experience in using technology quickly and efficiently;
  • Attention to detail;
  • 1 years of experience working in a clinical, patient-facing role in a veterinary setting is highly preferred.

What you’ll get:

To attract the ideal candidate, in addition to a competitive salary, we offer the following benefits: (FULL TIME)

  • Paid Time Off
  • Pet discounts
  • 401(k)
  • Group medical insurance

The nitty gritty (in case you want the specific!):

  • Provide safe but compassionate restraint of patients for physical examinations, treatments, and procedures;
  • Obtain patient vitals – recognize and communicate abnormalities to attending veterinarian;
  • Interact with clients in person and via phone to obtain vital patient information;
  • Provide client education and instruction regarding recommended prophylactic and prescribed care in a positive, reception manner;
  • Prepare and administer medication/vaccination/treatment via topical, oral, submucosal, subcutaneous, intramuscular or intravenous routes as directed by the Veterinarians;
  • Obtain radiographs of patients utilizing appropriate positioning and safety techniques;
  • Perform diagnostic tests on blood, urine and/or feces, or prepare samples for shipment to an outside laboratory;
  • Clean & sterilize instruments, equipment and other materials as instructed;
  • Assist with anesthesia as directed; identify and appropriately respond to abnormal or unhealthy responses to anesthesia; monitor anesthetic recovery as directed;
  • Assist with dental procedures, including prophylactic cleaning, polishing, dentition charting, and radiography as directed by the Veterinarian;
