Job Summary:

As the initial point of contact at the club’s food & beverage venues, this position is responsible for providing a positive first impression by displaying professionalism, friendliness, and an eagerness to provide outstanding service to club members and their guests. This position is responsible for demonstrating genuine hospitality by welcoming, creating rapport, and escorting members and guests to their table or bar seat. Ensuring F&B policies on seating times and reservations are followed.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Setting up the dining room and arranging / laying tables.
  • Handling reservations and table allocations.
  • Acknowledges and greets members and their guests warmly, immediately after they have entered by using their name whenever possible.
  • Retrieving members from grill/bar at their reservation time and escorting members to their tables at the appropriate times, provides them with menus, and ensures the tables are set up properly.
  • Monitors host / hostess stand to ensure area is neat and clean, as well as inspects proper cleanliness and safety in the dining room.
  • Ensure all menus are clean and ready for the next reservation.
  • Controls the front door ensuring a smooth flow of service.
  • Follows proper opening and closing duties are per the appropriate procedures.
  • Assists with table clearing and re-setting as needed.
  • Oversees dining reservation system and notes any special requests on the reservation list and communicates the request to the Food & Beverage Manager to announce at lineup.
  • Attend pre-meal meetings to learn daily specials, club announcements, and general club information.
  • Ensures that all menus are counted daily, re-ordered, cleaned, and properly stored.
  • Recognizes members and their guests upon their exit, while smiling and thanking them for coming to the Club to dine.
  • Promote Member satisfaction through recognition and attention to detail. Resolves member complaints / issues in a timely manner.
  • Conforms with and abides by all regulations, policies, work procedures, and instructions.
  • Exhibits and maintains a professional demeanor and grooming standards to reflect a positive image of The Venice Golf and Country Club.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Food and Beverage Managers.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Food & Beverage experience – minimum of two years
  • Must have excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Must have strong organizational skills
  • Must work well under pressure
  • Ability to verbally communicate well in English and in writing
  • Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions in English
  • Ability to interact professionally and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, co-workers, and members
  • Must be able to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Must have a flexible schedule, including working evenings, weekends and holidays
  • Ensures service staff meets “timeliness” of service standards

Education and/or Experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); previous dining room (preferably high-end) experience or host / hostess experience and/or training in the food and beverage or customer service-related industry; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills:

Ability to communicate well in English. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information one-on-one to members and guests.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of the internet and point-of-sale (POS) electronic ordering system and reservations systems.
