Job Title: Part-Time Male and Female Urine Specimen Collectors – Evening Hours
Location: Southeast San Antonio / Southcross area
The exact worksite address will be provided to selected applicants.
Position Summary
The Unscripted Therapy & Wellness Center is seeking one male and one female urine specimen collector to provide directly observed urine collection services for justice-involved adults.
Two collectors are needed because directly observed collections must be completed by a qualified collector of the same gender as the participant. The positions are part-time and contingent upon contract award, credential verification, and final approval.
Schedule
- Three evenings per week
- Approximately 5:00 p.m.–7:00 p.m.
- Part-time and referral-based
- Applicants must be dependable and consistently available during the assigned evening collection schedule
Required Training and Certifications
Applicants must provide documentation of:
- Urine Specimen Collector Training Certificate
- Training in directly observed urine collections
- Chain-of-custody and specimen-handling training
- Current Bloodborne Pathogens training certificate or willingness to complete the required review, training, and written acknowledgement of 29 C.F.R. § 1910.1030 before beginning services.
- Training in infection control, personal protective equipment, and exposure-prevention procedures
A DOT urine-collection certificate may be considered, but the applicant must also demonstrate competency in observed collections and chain-of-custody procedures applicable to this program.
Applicants interested in also performing sweat-patch application and removal must possess or complete the authorized sweat-patch application and removal training before providing that service.
The solicitation requires collection services to be performed by named, trained personnel using same-gender observation, with the individual’s qualifications entered on the official Staff Qualifications form.
Responsibilities
- Verify participant identity and collection authorization
- Explain collection procedures and expectations
- Conduct directly observed urine collections
- Maintain participant dignity, privacy, and professional boundaries
- Complete chain-of-custody paperwork accurately
- Inspect, label, seal, document, store, and transfer specimens
- Identify and report suspected tampering, adulteration, substitution, refusal, or inability to provide a specimen
- Maintain a clean and controlled collection environment
- Follow confidentiality, safety, infection-control, and incident-reporting requirements
- Communicate promptly with the clinical director regarding collection concerns
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Current urine specimen collector training certificate
- Current OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens training
- Experience with specimen collection, drug testing, healthcare, corrections, probation, behavioral health, laboratory services, or a related setting preferred
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and accurate documentation
- Professional, calm, respectful, and nonjudgmental demeanor
- Reliable transportation and punctual attendance
- Ability to pass required background and exclusion screenings
Federal Program Eligibility
Applicants must be able to confirm that they:
- Are not currently under investigation for or charged with a criminal offense
- Are not currently under pretrial supervision, probation, parole, mandatory release, or supervised release
- Have not been convicted of a sexual offense
- Are not required to register as a sex offender
These confirmations are required as part of the government Staff Qualifications certification.
