Job Summary

The Student Conduct Officer is responsible for enforcement of the Student Code of Conduct. This role involves managing the student conduct process and ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations while adhering to the policies and procedures of the University.

In this position, there are occasional obligations during evenings and weekends for student meetings, workshops or University of Texas at Tyler events.


Major Responsibilities/Duties/Critical Tasks

  • Investigate and adjudicate allegations of academic and non-academic misconduct, ensuring fair and timely resolution of cases.
  • Coordinate and conduct hearings for students who have violated the code of conduct.
  • Manage communication between students, family members, faculty and staff regarding student conduct matters.
  • Maintain compliance with laws, statutes and case law relevant to student conduct in a higher education setting (i.e. Clery, FERPA, Title IX), including the policies and procedures for the University.
  • Serve as a Campus Security Authority as defined by the Jeanne Clery Disclosue of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Cleary Act).
  • Develop and implement on-going training to multiple constituency groups and campus partners.
  • Prepare students for academic success by articulating University Code of Conduct expectations.
  • Serve as a resource on student conduct issues for faculty, staff, and administration.
  • Implement assessment strategies to evaluate student learning outcomes and program effectiveness.
  • Maintain confidential computer database and tracking system for all conduct cases.
  • Conduct outreach and education on student rights, responsibilities, and behavioral expectations.
  • Prepare reports on student conduct to leadership.
  • Stay current on legal trends and best practices in student conduct and higher education law.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Required Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Three (3) years in a higher education environment in student conduct, conflict resolution, student affairs, student activities, or student housing.
  • May accept a combination of education and experience.


Preferred Education/Experience

  • Master’s degree or Doctoral degree in a related field.
  • Database knowledge (e.g., Maxient database).


Accompanying Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies

  • Proficient with Microsoft Suite.
  • Ability to adapt to new technologies and software systems quickly.
  • Knowledge of student conduct and academic integrity systems with compliance to federal and state laws, including FERPA, Title IX, and the Clery Act, while underscoring the importance of due process, procedural fairness, and the application of higher education administration and student development theory in promoting equitable and ethical campus environments.
  • Establish, nurture, and maintain productive relationships with internal and external audiences.
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to communicate complex information to an audience in an understandable manner, including presentations.
  • Strong analytical, critical and problem-solving skills to identify and resolve issues efficiently.
  • Interact professionally with students, faculty, and university leadership.
  • Respond flexibly and positively in all circumstances, working calmly under pressure.
  • Demonstrate good judgment and discretion regarding sensitive and confidential information.

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.

This position is security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code Section 51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information. Applicants selected must be able to show proof of eligibility to work in the United States by time of hire.
