Position Summary
The Manager for Community Engaged Pedagogy supports the development, implementation, and advancement of community-engaged teaching and learning at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). Reporting to the Director of the Institute for Scholarship, Pedagogy, Innovation, and Research Excellence (InSPIRE), the role is responsible for promoting community-engaged pedagogy, coordinating the Community Engaged Learning (CEL) course designation process, and supporting faculty in the design and implementation of community-engaged courses and curricular experiences.
The Manager works collaboratively with faculty, academic departments, and community partners to expand high-quality community-engaged learning opportunities that strengthen student learning, support community partnerships, and advance UTEP’s mission of regional impact.
Statement Of Duties And Responsibilities
Lead the development and coordination of the Community Engaged Learning (CEL) course designation process, including review, documentation, and communication with faculty and academic departments.
Support faculty in the design and implementation of community-engaged pedagogy, including service-learning, experiential learning, and community-based learning models.
Develop and maintain guidelines, standards, and best practices for CEL-designated courses in alignment with institutional priorities and national best practices in community-engaged teaching.
Collaborate with academic units, faculty leaders, and campus partners to expand the number and quality of CEL-designated courses across the university.
Facilitate connections between faculty and community organizations to support course-based partnerships and student learning opportunities.
Track and document CEL-designated courses, faculty participation, and community partnerships to support assessment, reporting, and program improvement.
Contribute to faculty development initiatives, workshops, and resources related to community-engaged pedagogy and teaching innovation.
Represent UTEP in meetings, convenings, and outreach activities related to community engaged teaching practices
Complies with all State and University policies
Other duties may be assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities: This position does not have direct supervisory responsibility.
Qualifications

Minimum Education Required
Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, education, higher education, public administration, or a related field from an accredited institution.
Minimum Experience Required
Three (3) years of professional experience in faculty engagement, community engagement, research administration, higher education partnerships, or a related field.
Demonstrated experience working directly with faculty, academic departments, or research units to support engagement, scholarship, or externally facing initiatives.
Demonstrated ability to coordinate complex projects or initiatives involving multiple stakeholders, timelines, and institutional processes.
Preferred Education/Experience
Master’s degree in higher education administration, public administration, social sciences, community development, or a related field.
Experience supporting or coordinating faculty-led, community-engaged research, service-learning, or engaged scholarship initiatives.
Experience working with community organizations or external partners in a higher education, nonprofit, or public-sector context.
Familiarity with research administration processes, including grants, MOUs, compliance, or institutional review considerations related to community-engaged research.
Demonstrated ability to translate faculty research interests into community-aligned projects that advance both scholarly and public-impact goals.
