Job Summary
The Director for Academic Engagement develops and coordinates select initiatives in the University Advising and Engagement Center and the Division of Student Success related to enhancing student- and advisor-facing experiences. An emphasis will be placed on improving measurable student belonging and student career readiness through enhanced advising and engagement practices. Employee will manage the Major Exploration Center (including dual credit and other programming), first-year student success seminar courses, experiential learning, career coaching advising professional development, and more. Services are designed to help students cultivate foundational decision-making skills, gain awareness of critical resources, and enhance their major and career readiness, while ultimately improving their ability to persist and graduate at UTA .

Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree.
- Five (5) years of experience working with college students in an academic advising capacity, career coaching capacity, or the equivalent experience.
- Two (2) years supervisory experience.
- Terminal degree in related field.
- Eight (8) years of experience working with college students in an academic advising capacity or the equivalent experience.
- Four (4) years supervisory experience.
- Experience with PeopleSoft.
- Experience developing curriculum and student-facing instructional materials.
- Program Oversight:
- Oversees and manages the success of multiple programs including the Maverick Major Exploration Program, UT CAP , Dual Credit, career engaged experiential learning and first-year student success seminar courses.
- Collaborate with direct reports, University Advising and Engagement Center, campus academic advisors and leads, along with other key campus partners to develop, enhance, deliver, and maintain structured processes and high-impact strategies impacting the first-year student experience and major and career decisions for exploratory students and those in transition. Ultimately, implementation of strategies will improve student engagement and belonging.
- Leadership and Supervision:
- Provide ongoing leadership of functional areas that includes, hiring, training and supervising staff.
- Manage a team of approximately seven (7) full-time staff members.
- Maintain and implement annual staff evaluations and a student feedback survey; additionally, on-going assessment of programming will occur.
- Enhancing Engagement:
- Assist the Assistant Vice Provost for Advising and Engagement with alignment and development of a high quality first-year experience for students. This includes the development, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of advisor career coaching training and professional development.
- Build relationships and partner with other units in the Division of Student Success and on campus, especially the Career Development Center to create consistent messaging and curriculum in student-facing experiences in support of the strategic plan including, but not limited to, orientation materials, advising materials, first-year student success seminar materials, etc.
- New Maverick Orientation:
- Provide academic advising, student support, and assistance for Academic Engagement students and advisors involved with New Maverick Orientation.
- Develop and manage the Academic Engagement student-facing advising experience for New Maverick Orientation in collaboration with key Division and campus partners.
- Serve on committees as assigned, participate in professional development activities, and perform other relevant service.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
