JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Under the direction of the Chair of Medicine, the Research Study Coordinator manages research for the UT College of Medicine Chattanooga Department of Medicine. This position assists with study design, feasibility and planning, grant proposals/budget, IRB/HIPAA, documentation and compliance, human subjects screening, and data collection and interpretation.

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)
EXPERIENCE: One (1) year of research experience; OR Associate’s Degree and three (3) years of research or similar experience, OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience to equal five (5) years.

Responsibilities
- Assists with all phases of research studies and steps involved in the research process.
- Assists investigators in developing study protocols (determining appropriate study design and methods, designing data collection templates, drafting informed consent literature review, assessing patient research risk/benefit ratio, planning study budget, and grant funding).
- Facilitates communication between study investigators, clinical/academic entities, industry, and scientific review committee/IRB.
- Screens and enrolls patients in research studies, explains the research study to the patient population and representatives.
- Builds and formats databases in preparation for statistical analysis.
- Analyzes and interprets basic statistical data in consultation with statisticians.
- Assists in the scientific writing, editing, and formatting of abstracts, presentations, and preparation of manuscripts for conference presentations and peer-reviewed journal publications.
- Prepares status reports for grant-funded studies.
- Adheres to FDA regulations to ensure ethical treatment of human subjects.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
