Job Description

Anticipated hiring range: $95,000- $113,000

The Executive Director provides strategic vision, leadership, and administrative oversight for the Center for Student Leadership, Engagement & Community (CSLEC) and Fraternity & Sorority Life (FSL) within the Division of Enrollment Management & Student Affairs. Reporting to the Assistant Vice Chancellor & Dean of Students, this position leads a dynamic team responsible for cultivating student leadership, civic engagement, service learning, fraternity and sorority life, and campus-wide involvement opportunities that promote belonging and holistic student development.

The Executive Director advances UTC’s mission by fostering an inclusive, vibrant co-curricular environment that supports student learning, leadership, and success. This role collaborates across the university to integrate leadership education, community engagement, and student involvement into the broader educational experience.

Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership and Vision

  • Provide direction, vision, and leadership for the Center for Student Leadership, Engagement & Community and Fraternity & Sorority Life.
  • Develop and implement strategic plans that align with the priorities of the Division of Enrollment Management & Student Affairs and UTC’s strategic enrollment and retention goals.
  • Foster a culture of belonging, integrity, and accountability within all programs and student organizations under CSLEC and FSL
  • Lead division-wide initiatives that promote leadership education, civic engagement, and student success.
  • Cultivate and sustain strategic partnerships with alumni and the Greater Chattanooga community to enhance student experience, advance CSLEC and university priorities, and serve as a trusted thought partner to campus and community stakeholders.

Supervision, Staff Development, and Organizational Management

  • Supervise professional staff, graduate assistants, and student employees across both CSLEC and Fraternity & Sorority Life.
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and performance management that encourage professional growth and excellence.
  • Oversee departmental budgets, resource allocation, and fiscal planning to ensure responsible stewardship of institutional and student-fee funds.
  • Promote collaboration, communication, and teamwork across departmental units and divisional partners.

Fraternity and Sorority Life Administration

  • Provide executive oversight of Fraternity & Sorority Life operations, advising staff in support of UTC’s Greek-letter organizations.
  • Ensure compliance with university policies, national organization standards, and state regulations.
  • Guide the development of leadership programs, risk management strategies, and accountability processes that strengthen UTC’s fraternity and sorority community.
  • Build partnerships with alumni, advisors, national headquarters, and governing councils to promote a culture of excellence and responsibility.

Campus Collaboration, Assessment, and Reporting

  • Collaborate with campus partners including Academic Affairs, Housing and Residence Life, and the Office of Student and Family Engagement to enhance student experience.
  • Lead assessment efforts to measure program effectiveness, learning outcomes, and student engagement impact.
  • Provide data-driven reports, program evaluations, and recommendations to the Assistant Vice Chancellor & Dean of Students and divisional leadership.
  • Represent UTC on university committees, professional associations, and community partnerships related to leadership and engagement.

  • Demonstrated record of successful staff supervision, fiscal management, and strategic planning.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Experience overseeing multiple functional areas within student affairs or enrollment management.
  • Demonstrated success developing cross-campus partnerships and leading large-scale student leadership or engagement initiatives.
  • Knowledge of student development theory, leadership education models, and risk management best practices.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Requires a master’s degree in higher education administration, student affairs, counseling, or related field. Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience, including project management and supervisory experience. Seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in student engagement, leadership development, or fraternity and sorority life. Demonstrated record of successful staff supervision, fiscal management, and strategic planning. Strong commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications: Doctorate in higher education, leadership, or related discipline. Experience overseeing multiple functional areas within student affairs or enrollment management. Demonstrated success developing cross-campus partnerships and leading large-scale student leadership or engagement initiatives. Knowledge of student development theory, leadership education models, and risk management best practices.
