Overview

The Chattanooga Area Chamber of Commerce is the lead economic development organization for the Chattanooga, Tennessee region. We are a high-impact, inclusive, and forward-thinking organization focused on building a thriving regional economy. We are seeking an organized and collaborative professional with a passion for leadership development and the ability to build trust with diverse constituents and create impactful experiences for program participants.


Job Description

The Director of Leadership Development and Community Engagement leads and coordinates the Chamber’s talent development programming, including Chattanooga’s premiere career development program, Leadership Chattanooga, and the Protégé Chattanooga mentorship program for early career professionals. This role is responsible for designing and delivering impactful experiences that build strong community leaders and advance the Chamber’s mission of a thriving Chattanooga region.


The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and disciplined time and task management. They will bring a solid understanding of project management concepts and effectively leverage the talents of others to achieve shared goals.


Key Responsibilities 

o Maintain innovative programs, events, and content by providing insight, management, and coaching to Young Professionals of Chattanooga (YPC), Protégé Chattanooga, Leadership Chattanooga, and the Leadership Chattanooga Alumni Association (LCAA). 

o Develop, plan, and execute events, programs, and content to engage and attract businesses and individuals for Leadership Chattanooga, Protégé Chattanooga, YPC, and LCAA. 

o Collaborate with Chamber leadership to develop marketing and business development strategies that expand awareness of programs and services. 

o Partner with the VP of Public Policy in the development and execution of inter-city visits focused on generating aspirational ideas and projects for the Chattanooga region. 

o Actively engage, cultivate, and manage relationships with volunteers and partners to ensure program support and funding. 

o Secure sponsorships from local businesses to support leadership development programs. 

o Identify and promote collaboration opportunities with other agencies and organizations engaged in this work. 

o Oversee the day-to-day activities of leadership development programs, including direct supervision of the Leadership Coordinator. 

o Evaluate program impact and participant outcomes, using feedback and data to continuously improve program effectiveness. 

o Perform other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications

o Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

o Four or more years of progressively responsible experience in program management, leadership development, community engagement, or a related field; experience managing staff and volunteers preferred.

o Strong event management, written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to professionally represent the organization.

o Ability to travel independently to meetings and events, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Preferred Qualifications

o Experience developing curriculum and managing leadership training programs.

o Experience raising funds or securing sponsorships for nonprofit programs or organizations.

o Experience working in or with a chamber of commerce, nonprofit, or economic development organization.
