Job Summary

The University of Southern Mississippi is accepting applications for the 2026-27 academic year, for a nine-month, full-time visiting instructor position within the School of Kinesiology & Nutrition, College of Education and Human Sciences to begin fall 2026. This position requires teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses and mentoring students. The ideal candidate would be qualified to teach courses that support at least one of the school's programs: Nutrition and Dietetics, Exercise Science, Sport Coaching, Fitness and Nutrition, and/or K-12 Physical Education.

Primary Duties And Responsibilities

A visiting instructor appointment involves:

  • Teaching undergraduate and/or graduate coursework;
  • Maintaining regular and responsive communication with faculty, staff and students;
  • Mentoring undergraduate and/or graduate students;
  • Engaging with program coordinators and faculty to maintain quality teaching and assessment standards;
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree from an accredited college or university in a field that would support teaching in one of the School’s programs (Nutrition and Dietetics, Exercise Science, Sport Coaching, Fitness and Nutrition, or K-12 Physical Education Licensure).

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collegially with students, staff, and faculty from diverse backgrounds, programs, and colleges.
  • Field experience in one of the school’s program areas.
  • Skill sets associated with use and application of common Kinesiology and Nutrition field equipment and tools.
  • Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, University policies and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

Ph.D. from an accredited college or university in a field that would support graduate teaching in one of the School’s programs (Nutrition and Dietetics, Exercise Science, K-12 Physical Education Licensure, Sport Coaching, Fitness and Nutrition). Experience in teaching courses at the College level.
