The University of New Mexico Student Health & Counseling clinic (SHAC) is recruiting for a knowledgeable, detail-oriented Medical Coding Specialist/Analyst to coordinate the processing of fees for professional services provided to patients within a specified group of clinical areas, for the purpose of reimbursement. This position analyzes patient medical records to assure that documentation by providers conforms to legal and procedural requirements and assigns specified codes to medical diagnoses and/or clinical procedures. Additionally, this position interacts with physicians and other providers regarding billing and documentation policies and procedures.
The Student Health & Counseling Center is located at the center of campus. The clinic provides comprehensive primary and mental health services and has a laboratory, x-ray, pharmacy, physical therapy, massage, acupuncture, case management, and health promotions on site. Other medical services provided are same day appointments, travel medicine, immunizations, and sports medicine.

Conditions of Employment Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
